Okay, I am trying to decide between 2 settings. My diamond will be from .70 to .75 in size. I wanted the halo setting because I thought it would make the diamond look bigger, but it may be out of our budget

I was looking at the micropave Legato from Whiteflash. It looks very delicate, but I wasn''t able to see it in person. Do you think a .72 carat round diamond would look too small on that setting or would it look okay? I wear a size 4.

Thanks for your input!

I think a .72 RB will look great in that setting. With a finger size of 4 you already have a good stone to finger size ratio going on, so I think the setting will just add to the overall impact of your ring. That setting is pretty delicate looking so it shouldn't overpower a 3/4 ct stone... I say go for it, its a beautiful setting!

ETA -- I just thought something --- if what you REALLY want is a halo setting (like if you have your heart set on one) maybe you can find one you like in your budget. If you let us know what your budget is for a setting we can definitely help you to find a halo

I think a .72 will look fairly substantial on your size 4 finger. Don''t forget a thinner band will make your diamond look bigger too.

I have a .75ct and am a size 2.75 and I''m really happy with the size. Here''s a pic with my wedding band to give you an idea of the proportions of a 3/4 ct on a small hand

Hi there!

Thought I''d add my 2 cents -- as I spent last weekend studying all kinds of e-ring settings with my husband. We''ve been married a while and are shopping for a 10th anniversary upgrade of my center stone...

Anyway, I have 3 thoughts about your situation:

1) I tried on chunky, wide bands, medium bands, and slim, delicate bands - having no clue what I wanted (I''m a size 4 ring finger also) -- and I was amazed how much LARGER the delicate, slim bands made the center stone appear! If you want all or most of the emphasis on the center stone itself, slim bands are just the thing! Plus, my hubby really thought the delicate bands looked better on my smallish hand. I think the Legato Micropave is very pretty and delicate and I may consider it myself...

2) I bet someone, somewhere has a halo setting in a price range similar to the Legato Micropave band. Are you shooting for gold or platinum?

3) If halo settings are truly your favorite, but you cannot find one that is budget-friendly..you could choose a pretty setting (like the Legato micropave) and then down the road, as a future anniversary gift perhaps, you could find a halo setting you love -- and since they do add the illusion of so much size to a center stone, it would be almost be like getting a new setting and a new stone since your stone would visually "grow" so much in that kind of setting...

One final thought: Though I''m not certain what your setting budget is, you may want to check out Knox Jewelers online. I know they do halo settings custom for your individual center stone size and some of their stuff is reasonably priced. There are several Knox Jewelers that come up online and I don''t recall the exact website address -- so Google "Knox Jewelers" and pick the one in Minneapolis...

Good luck!

Hi,

Thanks for your replies. I contacted WF to ask about their custom process. I also checked out the Knox Jewelers website. I love their settings, although my favorite is still too high. I am going to check out a reputable B&M here in Houston tomorrow.

I want to make sure I choose something that I will be happy with for a very long time. I''m lucky my bf is giving me the opportunity to pick :)

Any more input would be very much appreciated.
