On a previous post I asked if the following were good measurements. While it is not a great stone I like it.

One of the posters did say that it would appear smaller than a 1.24 carat should.

Can someone tell me with the given measurments what size diamond it would look like?

Thank you.

My length to width ratio is 1.79.
Weight: 1.24
Shape: Marquise
Color: H
Clarity: VS2
Measurements: 9.77 x 5.44 x 3.78 mm (don''t know what 3.78mm means)
Depth: 69.5
Table: 60.3
Crown: 15.4
Pavilion: 47.8
Girdle: Very thin to SL. Thick
Polish: Good
Symmetry: Good
Fluor: None
Culet: None

I think it''s important to know where and how much this girdle is very thin.

Check out this thread as it has a mm to carat size conversion chart which might help you. This way you can check in MM how a certain carat size of a given shape should face up with the diameter measurements. If a diamond is cut too deep or has a thick girdle, this can waste weight and the diamond can look smaller for it's weight than it should. Watch the very thin girdle here as it is a Marquise.

Also look at this chart for cut info for Marquise.

OH NO! If I''ve read the chart correctly my 1.24 looks like it is .80 to .95!

Lorelei, how can I tell with a stone larger than what the chart ends with?

Hiya DF!

I had a look for you and found this chart here

http://www.gemsociety.org/info/chsize.htm

Go to the bottom and it has a chart for larger carat weights for EC'S.

DiaLil, if you have already bought this diamond, don't worry about it, the charts are a guide only and with fancy cuts it is very difficult to judge beauty by the numbers anyway, so don't worry - just enjoy your diamond and some pics would be nice if you could post some sometime please!

Also the 3.78mm is the depth in mm, same as 69.5 equiv %. Firegoddess makes an excellent point too - I am always amazed at how large a Marquise faces up for it's carat weight, so I am sure your diamond looks big! PICS!

Don''t forget that one good thing about marquise cut stones is that they appear larger than rounds of the same weight. So even if this stone does face up small, it will still look larger than a rb with the same depth issues.

Thank you for the insight. I sure wish I had known about PriceScope before I bought the diamond. I thought I knew enough not to get taken or sort of anyway.

I will post pics as soon as I can.

Thank you.
