I was wondering what the equivalent size would be for diamond earings versus a diamond ring. I know this quesiton could have a range of answers but for instance if a girl received a 2 carat diamond ring what size would the earing "equivalent" be? Also, what site is recommended to purchase diamond earings. Any general advice would be appreciated.

I''d say around 1.5 carat total weight (each maybe .75-.8) would be perfect. Is she a petite lady? I got mine from Mark Turnowski at engagementringsdirect.com. They were very affordable and the sparkliest studs I''d ever seen!

Mine are a similar ratio -- 1.14 carat solitaire and 0.72 ctw studs. I am considering some day taking my 0.52 solitaire and pairing it with another stone, so then I would have 1.04 carat studs. To me it kind of makes sense to keep the total weight of the studs below or near to the weight of the solitaire, but there's an exception to everything of course.

These make picking out studs easy if you don't want to do the legwork yourself:

My diamond is 1.6 cts. and the studs total 1.5 cts. I do think a total weight of 75-100% of the ring stone is a good proportion. So a good range would be 1.5-2.0 carats total weight for the studs.

I got mine through WhiteFlash because it was easy to match ideal cut stones. I''d add Brian Gavin to that as well as Good Old Gold.

yep I second WF and Brian Gavin to your list... they are both phenomenal to work with.

I think it is a matter of personal preference and balance as to what you / she thinks looks "right" in her ears... I selected a 1.19 carat, E, VS-1, Asscher cut diamond for my fiance Valerie as a center stone for her engagement ring because she felt that anything larger would look ostentatious and might be beyond her personal comfort zone... But we picked out 0.75 carat (each) D/E color, SI-1 clarity ideal cut rounds for her ears and they look great on her! Now her Mom on the other hand is comfortable with a larger center stone for a ring, but prefers half carat diamonds for her ears

I agree.

I also agree. My studs are .80 ctw and they look huge on my sister who has tiny ears so I guess it would depend on what looks right on her.

the basic rule...

for earring studs .....75% ctw of your e-ring "center stone".
