Hi - PS newbie here!
Assuming all things are equal, and you had a choice between a 0.75ct G and a 1.50ct L - what would you do?

That is a huge difference in both size and color...a bit of an extreme choice. A lot of people are fans of warmer diamonds, but personally, an L would be too warm for me for an eng. ring, so I'd probably try and find something in between an L and a G. Maybe a 1.10 J color. (but size isn't extremely important to me...a 1.50 would look too big on my hand)

Agreed. Somewhere in between those two extremes would be preferable, at least to me.

Are we talking round brilliant?

I'd likely look for an I-J just under one carat myself.

If I absolutely have to pick between the two, and assuming both are equally well cut and eye clean, I would only consider the smaller G if it's going into a halo.

I'd get a 1.1-1.2ish I

Exactly!

It's not sooo much about the budget - but I am interested to know what others would do if given a choice!

Yep. I'd find middle ground between G an L in color and between .75 and 1.5 in carat. I'd prob look for I-J in color and see where that gets you in carat size for your budget

if its a halo then I would stick to an H or G in color

Have you compared these two colors in person? (and comparable cut qualities, as well!)

It's hard to find L colored stones online so I don't even know if the retail prices of those stones would be comparable (I suspect the bigger stone would still cost more?), making this a false choice, but between those two I would take the .75. Or, more likely I'd use the larger stones budget for a G colored stone in the .9ish range.

I am actually not color sensitive at all, and I own a range of diamonds in F through L colors right now. I would go for size. And I did with my engagement ring, which is a 1.5 ct J color.

I can't make a choice between those two because neither would fit my parameters for what I'd want in a ring stone. I'd go to H or I color with greater size than the G. I color is my personal lowest in a round brilliant. I think there can be a happy balance between color and size without having to go to an extreme.

Depends on the cut type. For most, I'd go with the 1.5 L, but for some fancy shapes I'd go with the G.

The cut of the stone would determine my choice. Some cuts of stone like OEC and vintage stoned I'd go for the L hands down.. Really depends on the stone

What about an August Vintage Cushions from GOG - would you still take the L? I've never seen them IRL.

If those were my only 2 options, I'd pick the smaller stone. I'm just too color sensitive to go with an L, the color would bug me...

If we are talking about a modern cut I would go for a middle ground, maybe slightly on the warmer end (in a J). If we are talking about vintage stones or new vintage stones like the GOG AVR and AVC, I would definitely go for the L. No doubt about it. I love vintage stones in warm colors.

Agree this is too extreme of a choice.

I don't think I would want either.

I have a 1.3 J colored AGS 000 stone. The only time I see warmth is in photographs, otherwise it is beautifully bright and white. But even watching the GOG videos, after J things start to slide in terms of color (after you leave the near colorless range).

I would get the G. I'm not a diamond expert like some, but I think an excellent cut G would look big because of the way it will sparkle. Go w/ an Exc cut G. Which shape???

I would like to get your advise on it too. First I decided to go with stone 1.20 c I SI1 (for halo). Now i think that color will bother me (I color it is those coal white effect????). I am thinking go with smaller stone (0.90 colorness G-F). Would it looks good in Halo or too small?

Is anybody has this small stone in Halo, how it's look?

If both stones were exactly the same except for color and size- I guess my questions are- what type of setting are you putting it into? And does the L actually face up like an L?

If you have a gorgeous antiquey/ art deco setting I would take the L in a hardbeat. I like lower colored diamonds and I think they look fabulous in art deco settings. And also some lower colored dimaonds have flor so it will make them appear whiter then they are graded.

It would depend on the stone for me as well. If it's old cut, I would take the L in a heartbeat, or even it was RB and going to be set in an antique or replica setting, I think I would still go with the L. If it's a fancy shape then I'd probably go with the G especially if it's a cut that has sharp corners, princess, emerald etc.

most definitely! I would purposely go for a lower color if going for an AVC or AVR
