You may have read my post about trying (and loving!) the Ritani Endless Love setting for a princess-cut diamond. The diamond I tried was a 1-carat princess in the middle with .3 pave side stones around the band and as a halo. I originally thought I wanted a 1.5-2 carat solitaire, but was bored when I tried them on. I fell in love with the Ritani and really liked it with the one-carat. My question is, for all of you halo lovers out there, what size diamond is too big to put inside a halo? I know this is more a question of opinion, but I''m curious.

The halo significantly increases the apparent diameter of the stone. There is no easy answer to your question, but I would think that an easy way to think about it would be to ask yourself what diameter of center stone you would be comfortable wearing with your lifestyle (e.g. the equivalent diameter of a 1.5 stone, 2 carat stone, etc.) and then try not to exceed that measurement by too much when you include the halo in the diameter equation. Hope that makes sense!

Anyway, there are lots of honking stones on Pricescope with halos around them, so you''re right when you say it boils down to personal preference. For me, I think putting a halo around my one carat round would be too flashy for my area and lifestyle. If I moved elsewhere, my opinion on that would change.

Well I am hoping the stones you saw where three points instead of 30!

Just teasing...You might want to look at firegoddes thread becuase the way they are set affects things dramtically! But really I think Daneila hit the nail on the head, depending on the center stone size diffrent halo stones will look better or worse. How closely do you want to follow the Ritani design?

I think the diamond size depends on your budget. after that, i would think there might be some issues depending on your finger size. I wear a 3.5 so i would have no room for a 3 carat center stone with a halo. If you liked the look of the 1 carat princess go for it. that a very nice size stone and when you add the halo it will add to the spead across your finger.

My finger size is around a 5. The halo did dramatically increase the spread of the ring across my finger. However, I had planned on getting a larger diamond originally (1.5-2 carats) but changed my mind when trying on 2-carat solitaires. I''m not sure why a one-carat G SI with the Ritani setting cost $9,600--could it be the BBB markup? Or are all Ritani settings priced the same? I looked up a one-carat G SI1 on PS and I''m getting a price of typically around $4-5k. I''m guessing the setting retails for around $2,500-$3k, but only because it''s "designer". I highly doubt the .31 worth of pave diamonds on a platinum setting is worth that, but maybe I''m crazy. I''m so confused!!!!

Yup, there will be a B&M mark-up, and you''re exactly right about the designer mark-up as well. I have heard of some people managing to buy their own stone online, set it into a cheap mounting, call the project a "remount", and managing to get Ritani to set it (with one of their retailers acting as a liaison). Might be worth looking into.
