Good evening all, I have narrowed down my choices for engagement ring to a few choices- I have 2 similar diamonds, both AGS000 WF ACA diamonds. They have the same color and clarity which I am happy with and the only difference left is the carat size. There is a price difference of about 1300 dollars for a size difference from 0.716 to 0.815- further details below:

I am putting the diamond in a solitaire 6 prong setting. My question is will the extra 0.1 carats be noticable larger for the price difference and will the bump in size with a sub-carat diamond affect light performance significantly? (I know they both will perform fantastically given the quality of the cuts and Idealscope images however will more diamond that is exposed with a slightly larger cut give it a noticable advantage?

Thanks in advance.

Something to add,

First diamond would fall right at low range of my initial budget projection but I can stretch the budget to include the larger stone if it seems it will be worth it.

At that size, 0.1ct difference is visible. I'd get the larger one if funds allow.

Try it out at www.diamdb.com

I agree, if it doesn't break the budget get the larger stone. You won't regret it.

Take the bigger.

The size difference will be noticeable.
I would go for the larger stone!

Looks like everyone else already said what I would - at that size, if it's within budget, I'd go with the larger stone, as there is a visible difference.

Well, here's some more info for you to consider.

If you take surface area measurements of each stone, there's about a 2 sq mm difference between the two. 26 mm vs. 28 mm.

You can make the calculation yourself - radius (squared) x pi - So for the larger one, the radius is 6.01/2 = 3.005
Then take 3.005 x 3.005 x 3.14 = for about 28 sq mm.

It's up to you whether $1300 is worth it for an extra two mm's. It's still about 7% larger, so a decent amount.

I had this same situation pop up with the same price difference. I spoke with the on the phone and they did a side by side comparison. They even said there is barely a noticeable difference, so I went with the smaller stone.
