Size difference between 3/4 carat and 1 carat pear

Our 30th anniversary is in July. I''m thinking of changing my setting to a a three stone with the pear in the center and two baguettes on either side with a matching three stone baguette band. My center diamond is .71 points. If I were to also upgrade my center stone to around a carat, do you think there would be much noticable difference? I don''t have time to look for my cert. right now, but I''m pretty sure my current stone is 7.23 x 5.17. We upgraded my original .33 round diamond for our 10th anniversary. I tried to attach a picture, but my file was too large. Will try to get it to work later

Depends on how the stone is cut. Fancies have a large number of different ways of cutting, some will face up much more than others for the same cara size.

What shape is your original diamond? As to size differences it depends on the actual pear diamond, if well cut then there will be some visual difference but if not then possibly not so much to more of a face up size difference depending on shallower or greater depth, or extra weight being hidden in other areas of the diamond.

Pears can vary tremendously, personally I love them, own one and am very interested in this shape but they can vary a lot in shape and appearance, they can also show bow ties which is something to look out for.

Actually from the proportions it looks like a nice diamond. Numbers only give a chalk outline of the stone, but on paper it looks promising, if we were looking one which I would say to investigate further. Keep an open mind with numbers as they don't tell the whole story when searching but they do give a baseline and method of eliminating the ones which are obviously not going to look good - in the majority of cases as there can be exceptions!

Which EGL lab graded your existing diamond, is it EGL Antwerp? If you aren't going to try to trade it in to get another, it could make a stunning pendant, just a thought.

Pictures, I would really like to see a photo of this diamond, make sure the photo is sized appropriately and make the file name something unique with no unusual characters, if you name the file pear1 or something like that, it is unlikely to post. If you are still having difficulty, email the image to admin who will post it for you.

Are you going to look for your new pear online or from a jeweller?

It does look like there''s a stamp on it that says New York. Is that possible. The Certificate No. is NA IA10298095. I don''t know if that means anything either.

If I do upgrade, I''m thinking of going to the jeweler I got my current diamond from. He has a B&M shop and has been in business for about 30 years now. I remember him saying he would give me the price I paid for the diamond if I ever wanted to trade it in. I paided $2,500 at the time. Maybe this was high for for years ago, not sure.

Thanks for all your info. on pears. I know they''re not that popular now, but I love them. When we got engaged in the late ''70s from what I can remember they were like the princess cut is today. The most popular shape next to the round. At least where we live. At the time, I thought the round looked more "engagement like" and went with it, but I really wanted a pear shape. So after 10 years, I got it. At that time yellow gold was all the rage too. I thought white metal was for "old ladies" like my mom and aunt. I had my diamond reset into white metal about 10 years ago. Funny how metals, stone shapes, etc. go in and out of fashion.

Yes, I think that is an EGL NY graded diamond you have there.

That sounds fine with your jeweller, check if he will still give you the same on trade in and if so and he doesn''t have any pears you like, see if he can call some in for you according to your specifications.

I also love pears, they aren''t the most popular choice perhaps but if well cut they can be stunning.
