First of all, I just wanted to say thanks to those who responded to my last post. I feel more confident about diamond buying. Here''s my dilemma:

My boyfriend and I have decided that we will have a budget of about $3500,which includeds the setting. I have decided to get a solitare with the theory of resetting the stone at a later time. I like yellow gold and I expect that the setting will run about $500. That leaves me and my boyfriend with around $3000 for the stone. Here''s my problem, I have very large fingers (size 9). For my budget, I can afford a very nice .75 carat stone that would be AGS 0 or 1 and that is colorless (si 1). I have found stones in that price range at whiteflash, gog, bluenile, and adiamor. I concerned about size. Should I lower the quality of the cut and color for a larger diamond? Would .75 carats look silly on my large fingers? I''m not looking for anything gaudy, but I do want something nice. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi there! I don''t think 0.75ct will look too small, besides I like the look of smaller ideal cut stones, they have a classy look to them. I personally wouldn''t drop to an I1 clarity for the sake of size as I would be bothered with the inclusions but if you can handle them, they you may want to try that route. I would def not sacrifice cut AT ALL! You could drop to a warmer colour stone to maximise size too. If you purchase through WF or GOG you can always upgrade later to a larger stone too.

These threads might help you to get a visual of different sizes on sizes 7 and up :)

Size 7+

Show me your size 7''s and up :)

I don''t think .75ct will look small, I think the way it is set will also have an impact on the diamond appearance as well :). I think the best way to go is to try stuff on and get a feel for what looks right on your hand :).

Ditto on the upgrade idea, or you could do a halo setting. That can really enhance the size of a stone!

Here''s a .82 I SI1 at $2935. I''d think you can get a 14k gold solitaire setting for maybe $300 or so.
