I''m looking for an Edwardian style engagment setting. Maybe art deco that''s not too busy. My girl wants something, in her words, that "looks antique but that does not look old." I''m at a loss to explain exactly what that means becasue I don''t even know myself. Anyways, I know she likes intricate metal work and design on the shank. I''ve been to Fay Cullen''s website, White Flash, Simon G, but that''s it.

Anyone know of other sites to get some ideas and pictures?

Thanks.

do you want something premade or are you willing to go custom?

looking for premade settings to get ideas for a custom piece

Thanks

Actually, I couldn''t get those links to work???

Is she involved in the process??? Seems like it would be so hard for you to pick , unless you really know exactly what she likes........Some people have the diamond set in a very plain band and then have her be involved in choosing the setting at a later date.........

they work now...sorry about that

I agree with maxine, this setting sounds like a tough one to pick out on your own. There are many different styles out there. If you set the diamond in a temporary setting then she could choose her ideal setting and all would be well. Have you taken her out to look at settings and rings?? Do you know exactly what style is Edwardian to her??

She is involved in the process, which pretty much involves me finding pictures, getting ideas, showing them to her and seeing what she likes. Then, I''m trying to draw out or at least get a real good idea of what she wants so I can give my jeweler the info. Timewise, maybe I should think about just getting a plain setting and then working on the custom one afterwards. In any case, the ideas and pictures I get of Edwardian style setting I can get the better. Thanks for all the help and suggestions. Any more sites or ideas?

Ok let me get this straight, she wants a new diamond in an antique looking setting?? Or does she prefer the old mine cuts or Old European cuts set in a gently used setting??

wow, I forgot how to type a coherent sentence. I meant to say the more pictures and ideas I can get the better. Thansks for all the help.

I''m trying to post a picture of one Edwardian I know she really likes. However, I forgot the picture and website address at home. I will post it later, so if you all can, maybe check back on this thread later on.

Thanks again to everyone. I have alot of sites to look at now.

Yes, she wants a new Princess cut in a antigue looking setting. It fits her personality to be honest, kind of a modern hippie.

still messed up....ANYWAY, most large companies sell this type of setting to some degree........

In addition to the Internet, you could also try:

Does your jeweler have any pictures of similar rings they have done? If you describe to them what you are interested in, they may also have some pictures of rings to show you. Also, maybe try the library and see if there are any books of pictures of Edwardian style rings.

Yes Good Old Gold has some very nice settings also.

It''s very nice...haven''t seen it specifically, but I agree with Kaleigh...take that pic and ask around to start.....

I showed it to my jeweler. He said we can do whatever I want. I don''t like how the metal work abrubtly ends on this piece though. I think it should somehow flow down the shank a little better. Thanks again for the help.

that is very pretty.

if you're up for a few more ideas Sheldon Speyer makes new settings that look like antiques. Good old Gold sells his stuff but you can check out his site here

One of my current favorites is shown on the antiqueengagementrings.com website that Mrs. Salvo mentioned.

I think it would look wonderful with a princess center:

If I recall correctly, it''s very similiar to a "Ribbon" setting that Tiffany''s made back in the 1920s :)

Thanks to everyone for the great suggestions. I have alot more to work with now.

I found some really nice pieces and ideas at artofplatinum, antigueengagementrings.com. Sheldon Speyer had some really cool and intricate wedding bands. But, one thing at a time here. Diamond . . . custom setting . . . proposal . . . and hopefully, if all goes as planned, wedding band.

I''m going to have the setting done in white gold and not platinum although that may defy the time period of the piece. I don''t mean to open a pandora''s box over white gold v. platinum, but does anyone totally disagree with going opting for white gold with the custom Edwardian style setting?

many people choose to go with WG for numerous reasons. My local jeweler stocks antique like settings in both WG and platinum. Get whatever works for you, i''m sure the ring will turn out beautiful
