A sightholder is a customer of the (DTC) Diamond Trading Company IE: an authorized bulk purchaser of rough diamonds.I believe the term comes from viewing the goods before purchase,at the claims in Kimberly south Africa.
Clients of the DTC (diamond trading Company aka De Beers)
These companies are attached to the SOC (suplier of choice) program, which means that they have a Two year contract of the right to purchase 10 sights (allocation of rough diamonds) yearly...
Usually they receive the same type of rough diamonds for their production in a consistance matter.
I am not sure where the term comes from, but i know that these sight-holders pay cash up front for their allocations (with-out seeing the goods first)..., and only after that payment they receive the goods.
