After 5 years of being too scared to fly international with a child we are going to take the plunge!

Now I need Food recommendations mainly places to eat that will allow children! Kidlet is 5yrs old, LOVES fine dining and well behaved so if you have any nice places that allow kids please recommend! He also LOVES buffets!

I would also like to buy some nice gold jewellery. I used to stick to Poh Heng but any other recommendations else will be greatly appreciated!

You need Phoenix to see this thread.

@Phoenix

@mellowyellowgirl , I'm here!:wavey: (thanks, @Mayk for the alert).

I don't have children, so my recommendations come with a caveat:).

Fine dining:
- all the 5 star hotels have big buffets and I think children are allowed. Sunday is the best day to go, free flow champagne or soft drinks (prob soft drinks since you have a toddler), and as much food as you can eat. I love the Ritz Carlton for their seafood selection. Raffles hotel is also nice.

- again, hotels are usually much more child-friendly

- PS Cafe in Dempsey is mid-range but it has a lovely ambiance and you can choose to sit outside, looking at beautiful greenery and their daily specials are worth checking out. One thing though: service is pretty hit and miss.

- For great Chinese, I'd recommend Din Tai Fung in the Paragon (for amazing xiao long bao) and any Imperial Treasure(for Peking duck wrapped in pancakes especially; ask them to give you the meat as well, otherwise, they'd only give you the crispy skin and turn the meat into another dish). Crystal Jade Palace in the Paragon serves a lovely dim-sum lunch.

- For great Italian, try Senso and Oso, though I'd telephone them beforehand to ensure children are allowed.

- Cut at Marina Bay Sands for amazing steaks (best steaks in town, IMO). Again, call them and check re children.

- MBS Hotel has a great infinity swimming pool with the best view of Singapore. You'd need to be guests. Perhaps stay there one night or two just so you could use their swimming pool.

- For Japanese, Kinki. Again, ask for their children policy. There's another great Japanese place but for the life of me, I can't remember what it's called. Will update if I do remember.

One thing you must do is to go to East Coast Park and try their black pepper crab or if your child can eat crab, get chili crab. Ask them to adjust the spiciness according to your own preference. It's a must-have. I prefer No Signboard Restaurant.

Another must-have is Hainanese chicken rice. Despite its name, it's now a quintessential Singaporean dish. I prefer the version at Chatter Box, located in the Mandarin Orchard hotel. They also do a very nice lobster laksa (again, ask them to adjust the spiciness as you like).

Almost all these places need reservations, except for East Coast Park.

RE buying gold, I'm afraid I don't know much as I don't buy gold. Poh Heng sounds like a good idea.

@Phoenix thank you soooooooo much!!!!!

This is exactly what I'm hoping for! Precise recommendations of eateries!

I'm having an excited meltdown about the lobster laksa already and I ADORE Peking duck!!!! And I love crab but have never tried it in Singapore when we used to go 100000 years ago!

We rented a 2 bedroom apartment because we didn't want to share a room with the kid. Marina Bay Sands will need to wait until he's older as we holiday without him! I sooooo wanted to stay there though.

Another question: Are taxis pricey? I recall them being reasonable but we used to walk a lot or catch the MRT. Might not be able to do that as much with the kid.

You're very welcome:-)

Taxis are usually fairly reasonable, but can be pricey and/ or difficult to get when it rains heavily and/ on a Friday afternoon/ evening. MRT is really the best way to get around if you don't mind the crowd. I'd avoid rush hours on the MRT as it's madness (like everywhere else, I guess). Buses are also another option. You can Google for the exact bus numbers/ routes.

Oh one word of warning: most buildings and public transportation here are freeeeeezing cold. So you go from a furnace to a meat-locker. I'd bring jackets and shawls.

Omg @Phoenix you live in such foodie paradise! Now I Definitely want to visit my LITTLE sister phoenix!

I recently finished a tv series with Kingone Wang that is set in Singapore :love:. It seems like I speak well enough of the languages commonly used to get by. :whistle:

@mellowyellowgirl - make room for me in your luggage!:lol-2:
