in doing the ''price comparison'' search here on ps, one of the columns says "spread" and lists things like -1% or -4% or 1% and I''ve never seen it described like that... which is which? Is a 1% or a -1% more wide or more deep? And is there a forumla I should know to figure it for myself using what, depth/width numbers?

In Garry''s words, from this thread:

"The new Spread is what the carat weight difference would be comapred to a 53% table Tolkowsky Round with a very thin girdle.
We choose that rather than surface area etc because you can relate it back to what you are gaining or loosing relevant to the carat weight difference which has the largest price impact."
