All of my sil''s relatives on her mother''s side (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends) live in Port Au Prince. She, like everyone else, has no idea if their alive or not. If they are, whether or not they even have their homes....She and her family are just sick with worry. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. I''m trying to be supportive, but I''m just at a loss for words for her.

Thats awful

Oh, they must be so incredibly worried. My heart goes out to them - I''ll keep them in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so sorry to hear this. I hope she hears from them soon and everything is okay.

Oh JF, I''m so sorry for your SIL and her family. Hopefully they will hear positive news soon. Thoughts and prayers to them. Please keep us updated.

Hi joflier. I am so sorry to hear this. I have family in Haiti as well, and it is heart-wrenching to wait for word. Thank God I have received word that my immediate family is OK, and I have seen a lot of good news come out despite the devastation. Because the communication in the country is so bad, all hope is not lost, so there is a very good chance that they are fine but have no way to communicate. Does your SIL have facebook? It has been such a valuable tool for my family and friends in locating people, because the people within Haiti are pretty much using their Blackberrys and updating their statuses to let people know they are ok. There is also so much word of mouth going on there. I have joined a facebook group called Earthquake Haiti, which has discussion boards where people are talking about particular neighborhoods and asking about particular people.

Here is also a short list of survivors (there are many more, but once again the communication is slowing down the list from being updated), so she can check this link: http://www.familylinks.icrc.org/WFL_HTI.NSF/DocIndex/locate_eng?opendocument. CNN also has a way to search for loved ones/post pictures on ireport.com.

My thoughts and prayers are with your SIL and her family, as well as with all of the people of Haiti.

I urge everyone to find a charity that you believe in and DONATE to these poor people. They had nothing to begin with, and this is just such a tragedy.

More prayers outgoing, joflier. The whole thing has been so devastating, I pray that they are okay.

Joflier, this is heart breaking. I can''t imagine how she must be feeling. Sending prayers her way, hoping she hears all is well. Sigh...

Jo, I sincerely hope everyone from your SIL''s family is ok. Thinking of you.

Prayers and good thoughts your way

I am so sorry, joflier. Please keep us informed. I hope that she is lucky and that her family survives. This morning my father said that a woman with whom he works was crying because she got news that her mother had been injured...but did not know how badly. Waiting to hear must be just horrible beyond words.

Hugs,
AGBF

ill keep them in my thoughts and prayers...

I forgot to mention, has your SIL tried calling the State Department at (800)407-4747? I don''t know if her family members are American citizens, and to be honest most people are getting a recording, but I want to make sure she knows all of her options.

I have been to Port Au Prince and know how bad the construction is and how aweful communication is. Hope you hear from them soon!

Continued prayers for your SIL''s family, Joflier, I have no doubt she''s sick with worry.

Prayers outgoing for your loved ones, Jo.
I hope your SIL hears good news very soon.

I''m so sorry joflier! I sincerely hope your SIL hears from her family soon. You guys must be worried sick.

Prayers for comfort during this difficult time!

Lori

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. No word yet.
Should be studying - I''m glad that your immediate family is ok and that you''ve heard from them! Thank you for the info - yes, she did try the state dept, but didn''t get anywhere. Their exhausting every avenue possible. SIL has facebook, but it sounds like her family does not.

Prayers and support for your family outgoing!

Never give up hope Jo, it''s chaos and communication is severely limited. I will keep my fingers and toes crossed for you.

Hi again, Jo. I am sorry to hear that they have not heard anything yet, but good news is still coming in! Her family is still in my thoughts and prayers. I hope that the communication system gets better soon, because the waiting period is so difficult.

Sending my prayers and thoughts..
