I just think this is the coolest thing ever...my first (blood-related) niece is due to enter the world this February...my SIL sent me her 4-D ultrasound pic last night and it is so neat, you can see almost all of her little face, so cute. I''m so excited to be an auntie, totally looking forward to going to the shower in a couple weeks, and I can''t wait to meet this baby of course! Thanks for looking!

That is amazing, monnie, as is being an aunt. I can''t tell you how phenomenal it was to hear my 2 year old nephew say "Auntie K" for the first time. And then "John?" over Christmas when my husband left the house to run errands. Being an aunt is such a wonderful thing. I only wish he lived closer so I could spend more time with him. He is such a fantastic little guy. Enjoy every minute of it.

Awwww, such a precious image.

I know you must be sooooo excited to be an Auntie. Thanks for sharing it with us monnie!!!

Thanks Kimi and Lisa! I really am excited, much more so than I''ve ever been about a new baby. I''m really happy for both of the parents-to-be, but especially for my bro. He is 4 years older than me and my only sibling. He was sooo good with me when I was little, he used to help my mom change my diapers, feed me a bottle, pull me around in my little red wagon, etc. As we got older he always did the nicest things for me, he built me a treehouse and let me put my dolls and stuffed animals in it, and he always included me in things. I know he will be a great dad, especially to a little girl.

My SIL''s and my first name is Heather, and back when they first started discussing names (they found out the sex right away), I jokingly suggested they name her Heather. Last night when my SIL emailed me she said they were seriously considering naming the baby Heather Hailey! Maybe she''s just pulling my chain but I wouldn''t put it past them. DH just rolled his eyes, he thinks it''s insane, but I really like the idea of another Heather in the family! Kind of like when males are named after their fathers for generations...I see nothing wrong with females participating in that tradition, lol!

Wow, your big brother sounds like the best brother ever! What a sweetheart! Your niece is adorable, too! Those 4-D ultrasounds really blow my mind! How crazy to see the little baby before he or she is even born!

I have 7 nieces and nephews and it never gets old hanging out with them! (And I''m not even really a kid person!) My twin sister and I are totally the favorite aunts and I love to rough house with them all, swing them around, play airplane with them, etc. New babies are soooo special and tiny, and then once they start playing and laughing it''s so fun! Plus I never have to change a diaper or deal with a crying kid!

Wow, that''s amazing!!! And she is beautiful!

About the "Heather Hailey" name thing... I like it! I, too, see nothing wrong with females carrying on the traditionally male naming custom!

It *might* get a little complicated when someone calls "Heather" (you all three would go running!

) but maybe they could call her "Hailey"?

Well, anyway -- congrats on being an auntie. And your brother sounds like a doll!

Awwwww, look at those chubby little cheeks! How precious. My sister had a 4D with her son and it looked a lot like him when he was born.

That baby picture is so cute! I never knew they could do that; that is so amazing! Technology floors me; I bet you are sooo excited! I love being an aunt; it is soooo much fun! I love to watch my nephews grow and talk and have their own little personalities. You have me wanting to call them now. . . off to check how they are doing. hehee

Kimi, your nephew says a lot for being 2; mine does not say a lot, hopefully soon. My nephew says, beans, truck, mom, dad, grandpa (which is gwanpa), gwanma, car, ball, phone, and honey.

hehe monnie, you call it cute, i call it just a wee bit CREEPY!!!

my cousin had the (i thought it was 3d?) ultrasound done with a picture like that and it was a little odd to see what was growing in her belly with a FACE! it seems just so alien...especially if you get them when the baby is younger. my neighbor had a few of them all through her pregnancy because she was at risk for high blood pressure so they monitored her really closely. so they said that it was really odd to see such detailed pictures at such young ages (i think they got them like every month or something starting at 3 months). i was thinking i wasn't sure how cool i'd be with seeing what was growing in my belly with a face! but who knows. maybe when it's yours, it's cool. hehe. actually your SIL's looks a little less alien than my cousin's...more cutesy.

though i do think that it's so much better than those white and black fuzzy lined ultrasounds, i can NEVER figure out what part of the baby i am looking at. and then people will be like 'oh thats the head' and here i'm thinking it was the butt or something. ack!

You crack me up! Would you rather grow something without a face??? Or rather it sprout a face at the moment of birth??? I have a friend that was so creeped out by fetal movements that he sould not sit next to me when I got big just in case my belly moved. He''s been married for quite a few years and still cannot bring himself to have kids.

hahah i guess i''d prefer wondering what the face looked like rather than knowing...or seeing it in it''s stages of development and thinking WOAH what is that??? but this is someone who hasn''t had a child, so who knows, maybe when you have it growing inside and feel it, putting a face to it, any face, is preferrable?!?!?

i love watching fetal movements and hearing about how babies move inside, but i guess the little detailed picture for whatever reason just creeps me out!! i think i am definitely the oddball since everyone else seems to think it''s so fabulous.

monarch..that''s a pretty neat picture and it really is amazing how technology works nowadays.

mara, i do agree it can be a bit creepy though. I think it might be cool if the baby was far enough along, although my insurance won''t cover it and i''m not high risk and too cheap to pay for one so I won''t do a 3 or 4-D. My sister did one at her 18 week and emailed us pics and I couldn''t tell what the heck anything was and it was the 3-D. she even thought for a second she might put a picture on her Christmas card which I strongly advised her against..talk about creepy..and she ended up not doing it, thankgoodness. Oh and I can never tell what things are on the ultrasounds. i''ve been though 3 and other than a good profile shot and random hand/foot i just can''t tell. when i was preggo with my first it was around the same time "rachel" was pregnant on Friends. There was an episode where she had her ultrasound and the tech was showing her and Ross the baby and Ross was like oh yes, I see and Rachel agreed, then the second the tech left the room she''s like...I can''t see it!! That was me, hubby seemed to be able to identify everything, I can''t tell the top from the bottom.

Mara, it definitely could be considered creepy, from one childless gal to another. My SIL had a false positive to one of the tests they do early on in her pregnancy and I guess that''s why she keeps having these super dimensional u/s''. They also have really great healthcare coverage, she works for the local hospital as an x-ray tech and mammographer, so I''m guessing she isn''t forking over a ton of cash for these images.

Lynn, fortunately (or unfortunately depending on how you look at it) I am 5 hours away from the other Heather...but we''ve always gone by Heather #1 and Heather #2 to avoid the confusion that goes along with having the same first name. So, I guess they will either call the baby Hailey, or refer to her as Heather #3 when we''re all together or during conversations.

Update! I didn''t want to start a whole new thread...

SIL went in to get induced at 4 p.m. yesterday but apparently was already in labor when she got there. Not much happened as of 10 p.m. last night so at 6 a.m. today they are going to start Pitocin and pretty soon our little niece will be here!

I''m thinking positive that all will go well for mom and baby...not asking for PS fairy dust but hoping for good vibes from everyone, or whatever you want to offer, LOL!

OMG that picture is WOW it made me go all clucky for a moment till like mara I had the alien thingy of something growing inside me and it kinda freaked me out. She does look just precious though :) they are so cute when they are just born.

Being an Auntie is awesome, you get to be fun and without all the uber responsibilities :) congratulations on the new niece

Thanks Deelight...I know, those 3D and 4D u/s'' are pretty freaky....

Just looking forward to a new baby being brought into the world now...I can''t wait to see her outside of the womb!

Monnie, my niece was born a few weeks ago!!! It's so exciting being an auntie- I know you'll just die!!

Those four-d are crazy things, right? That one was waaaay more human looking than my niece.

Aunt Monnie, keep us updated! Remember when you thought she was going to go early? Good thing you didn''t buy those garnets.

Can''t wait to hear all the gory details!

How exciting, Auntie Monnie!! Please keep us updated!

I think they''re so cool! It''s amazing the detail that you can see on the scans.

What a little cutie! I can''t wait for more pictures!!

I''ve never seen a 4-D ultrasound. How cool is that!!

Congrats to you and your family. Being an aunt is worlds of fun!!

Your niece has some cute chubby cheeks! I have to agree though, it is a bit creepy looking. I''d rather wonder what my baby''s face looks like. Although, if my insurance covered it, I definitely won''t turn a 3 or 4-D (what is the difference???) down. I''m sure seeing any picture of your baby is exciting!

Wow. That''s like seeing/meeting your baby even before she''s born. She''s very cute!

Gah! This baby is taking her sweet time coming into the world...they took SIL off the Pitocin yesterday morning and decided to let things progress on their own...then very early this morning the doc broke her water, and gave her the epidural, so hopefully things move along faster from here. Auntie is getting very anxious, and of course everyone else is too!

Good luck with waiting, Monarch! I know it was hard for us, with my brother being in AU. The same thing happened to them, too, my SIL was three weeks past her due date when they tried pitocin, and still nothing. She ended up having a c-section, though. I wonder if things are done differently there?

Enjoy, Auntie Monarch!!!

Monnie~

YAY for the baby coming....eventually....

I''ve been waiting for an announcement from you, and I saw Tacori posted in your WW and thought I missed it. Now, I see, she''s still trying to get here.

Good luck to your SIL. Pitocin sucks!

Oh, and, I was with my sis when she had her son. I recorded his first cry on my cell phone. It''s really neat to have that....hint hint....

For anyone who''s interested, this website is full of 4-D ultrasound "videos" (they''re sort of like freeze-frame videos).

I showed them to FI and his response was "Ummm... do we have to do that? I really don''t wanna do that." We''re both kinda creeped out by it

(exacerbated by THIS incredibly creepy video...)
