I apologise in advance for what I''m sure is a dense question but I''ve done some research and can''t find an answer ....

If you have an Asscher cut do the windmills have to splay wider as they near the edge of the diamond or can they appear as just a straight line. If they are just a straight line would this be classed as a square stepped emerald cut instead?

Apologies but I can''t find anything that shows me pictures that differentiates between the two cuts.

square step cut doesn''t have windmills just a line.

Karl you are my guru! Thank you for the reply.

So a square step cut with a line would be an emerald cut? Not an asscher?

Apologies for being dense!

Apologies for being dense!
it isn''t either one its a type of cut in itself.

Well that's obviously why I can't find anything when I compare emerald cuts and asschers!

Think I'd better go back to diamond school for thickies!

Very very many thanks for your help. I really appreciate it. So the diamonds in this ring are square step cuts?

Helps if I upload the attachment!!!!!

looks like it.

What is the difference between that and the carre(sp?) cut? Or is that the same?

Thanks again Karl. I suspected they weren''t asschers but just couldn''t find anything to clarify with.

I don''t think anything--a carre cut is just a square step cut without clipped corners (and thus no windmills).
