Hi,

Yesterday I tried on a dress in a bridal salon here in Vancouver it''s made of silk taffeta, is strapless with a more triangular sweet heart bodice, has rouching on the front and back going down the dress, and has a short train. It was a very elegant gown. There''s no beading on it. Unfortunately, when I asked who the designer was my sales consultant said that they can''t tell me until I have purchased the dress. Quite possibly it is one of their own designs, but you never know.
I''m wondering if anyone can suggest some wedding gowns that might look like this.

Thanks,
Lauren

They rip out the designers name now, because everyone just browses in the stores and then orders the dress online for less. By ripping out the tag you are obligated to buy the dress from them to find out who makes it. Sneaky but smart!

I know why they do it, but it really pisses me off. There is no way I''d want to put money down without knowing which designer or dress it is. I''d try looking around the major dress designers and see do you recognise it. I found that a lot of the Alfred Angelo dresses were taffata so maybe look through their website first. Best of luck finding it.

I don''t have any suggestions on the dress except to say that the Paloma Blanca one is beautiful!

I''ve heard this practice is not only unfair but also illegal. It makes me steamed, but dress shops still do it!

Have you seen if the shop has a webpage where they list designers they carry? That might give you a starting point. Also, do you have any idea of the price point of the dress? That can help narrow down possible designers, too.

This Paloma Blanca dress, as well as the Maggie Sottero look a lot like the dress I tried on. Thanks for your help everyone.
Someone said that they think it is illegal to not tell you the brand name, where did you find that information?
I have a picture of the dress. I''ll try and post it asap.

THANKS!!!

P.S. Are all you getting married or married?

Also, the cost of the dress was $839.99 not including alterations.
And I have looked at the website (www.lisasbridal.com). They carry Alfred Angelo, Alfred Sung, J''ai Internationals, Jade Daniels and many other designers including their own line.

Most of us are planning weddings, but some married ladies post here as well! Everyone is usually really helpful.

As far as ripping out tags being illegal, I think this is true in most states in the US -- but since you''re in Canada, I''m not sure what the laws are there. You can probably call a consumer protection bureau to ask.

The price of the dress sounds like it could be a Casablanca, I''d recommend going on the website (http://www.casablancabridal.com/Home.asp) and looking through the collections. Fall 2006 and Fall 2007 seem to have a lot of dresses with ruched waists. And of course, if you can post a pic that''s great!

I don''t know a TON about Paloma Blanca pricing (except that my friend''s dress that was only slightly more elaborate than the one posted above was $1500) but I have a feeling that most of their dresses are more than $840.

I believe that the Vernice is made in either Taffeta or Raw Silk. It is on the top of my list to try on once I am engaged.

Hudson- didn''t you try on that dress? Is the taffeta it''s made with silk?

Its quite stinky that they ripped out the labels on the dresses you tried on. I can understand why they do it but it still is really annoying.

Good luck with your search!

Okay if you copy and paste this (C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\Silktaffetadress.mht)into your web address bar, you should be able to see a picture of the dress. Sorry that it isn''t the best picture. I was in a hurry to take it. I should have remembered to take a picture of the back which had a zipper and ruching as well.

I tried to look at the picture but it didn''t work for me. I don''t know much about computers but isn''t that an address to see it on your computer? I believe C:/ is the way to your hard drive.

Can you convert it to a jpeg and upload it onto the thread?

The Vernice comes in two versions, the Vernice (duponi silk) and the Vernice Marie (taffeta (not silk). The price point of the duponi version is right around $750-800 depending on where you go. The VM is about $400 less. I couldn''t find a sample dress to see the taffeta, so I can''t comment on that, but the silk is beautiful. The dress is really lightweight and comfortable, and it was beautiful on.

One of the shops I went to when dress shopping had removed all the tags from the dresses, but the hang ribbons (dont'' know what else to call them), still had the logo on them. Maybe that''s the case with the one you tried?
