I''m ready to buy my new wedding band and can''t decide between the 18K yellow gold Signed Pieces Raphael ring (2mm or 3mm) or the 18K yellow gold Tiffany''s Lucida ring (3mm only). My e-ring center stone is going to be reset late this year or early next year in either an X-prong or a cathedral setting (I think). I already have a Raphael 2mm platinum and love it (I just can''t wear it, lol)! But DH and I agree that after this, no more changes, upgrades, etc to my rings, so I have to be certain that this is it for the rest of my life. And knowing that is one reason why I''m considering spluring on the Tiffany Lucida ring. The Lucida ring costs 60% more though... and visually, I can''t see a difference between the Tiffany and the SP Raphael.

Also, would you think there is a visual difference between a 2mm and a 3mm ring? I think I prefer the 2mm but when I pair the 2mm with my e-ring, it looks too small whereas a 3mm looks perfect. But I''ll be wearing this band by itself or sevearl months.

Thanks so much!

Carrie

Well, I''d personally advise you to get the e-ring set first (or at least choose the setting to try on with bands). I made the mistake of buying an eternity band from SP because it was on sale in June, but it was before my new diamond was set. So when I went to try on settings with it last week, I could see it didn''t work well with many of them. Whether you choose 2mm or 3mm depends so much on the setting the diamond is in and the size of the e-ring diamond. In addition, how high the diamonds stick up (thickness) has a lot to do with how much wear they put on the e-ring prongs. So if you buy the band first, just know you''ll have to go try on settings with it before having your diamond set to see what will work. On my current solitaire thread, butterfly_17 told me that she looked and looked for a low set band (to minimize the band from wearing down the e-ring prongs) and did finally end up buying a Tiffany. I did go to Tiffany last week and found that the medium size band looked best with my size solitaire. I don''t remember the exact width, but I am sure it was close to 3mm. I am not sure if all the Tiffany bands are low set, but they may be set that way to go with their rings. So the Tiffany band may be safer in the long run. I had to return my SP band and start over!

Thanks diamondseeker! My current e-ring is a platinum cathedral and my diamond is just over a carat (1.06) princess cut. I prefer solitaires so I do have an idea of how it''ll sit but you are right, what type of solitare will affect how it sits flush (or not) with my wedding band. However it''s not really in our budget to get my e-ring reset right now and I can''t wear my platinum rings at all (allergy). I''d rather have a wedding band now to wear (my hands feel naked without my rings) than wait to get my e-ring sorted out first. Does that make sense? I guess I''m willing to chance it that I may have to search a bit to find a setting for my e-ring diamond to sit well with my wedding band.

You should be okay since you aren''t set on one specific setting for the e-ring. I''ll just tell you I favor 3mm with a solitaire if the band isn''t too wide on the solitaire (3mm or less?). If the e-ring is wider, then I think a thin eternity band looks good. See Tacori E-ring''s new thread in SMTR for a terrific example of a perfect set where the e-ring is wider and the eternity band is narrower. But I''d especially favor 3mm since you want to wear it alone for awhile.

I am also considering a Tiffany band. It is truly the most beautiful, well made shared prong band that I have seen. But like you said, it''s a killer to think about paying 60% or so above what SP charges. However, I very well may get it because I like how low it is set and don''t want to worry about wear to my e-ring. I''ll really be anxious to hear what you decide! Please post pictures!!!

AS a matter of fact, Tacori''s band is set with princess cut diamonds. It''s gorgeous. She had it custom made, but they could make it in any width and with or without the milgrain, obviously.

That is really sad news that your allergic to your present set!

I was wondering, do you know for sure that your skin is alright with the gold and alloys they will use in the setting you want?

As in regards to 2mm (vs) 3mm ... I think if I were in your shoes, I would be going to the nearest mall to try on a few diamond bands in those widths, and seeing what they look like in person next to a ering setting of similar width to what your thinking that you want.

If I had to guess, I would guess for the 3mm, but that is totaly a blind guess.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Have a super day!

oh thanks ladies! I believe that band is 2.5mm (that is what I ordered though I am bad and haven''t measured it) 2mm is so thin to me. I have two 2mm bands and I could never wear one alone (and I have small hands!!!!) It is all personal perference of course but between a 2mm and 3mm I would choose the 3. I do agree with MDJ that the best thing would be to go try some on at the mall so you can get a sense of what you like.

Thanks everyone!

DH kind of made the decision for me. I asked his opinion and turns out, he has a grudge against Tiffany''s I never knew about. He bought me a bracelet there years ago and the sales person was rude to him, so he''s sworn ever giving them another dollar again. Personally, I think he''s taking it a bit far but I also understand. I was having a hard time justifying the 60% mark up when the SP''s ring looks almost identical.

So I went ahead and ordered it this evening and will definitely post pictures when it arrives!

Thanks again!
