For some reason this David Yurman stuff keeps drawing me back. So, rather than pay full price which imho is totally ridiculous, I'm looking on ebay which is STILL ridiculous. here's the link. There's something about this citrine that keeps drawing me back to the store over and over argh!!!! I found something similar on ross simons, just not sure if i'd be happy. What do you think - honest!

(I'm pretty hung up on the diamonds and 14 mm size if I do get a yurman, although considering the replacement I should possibly consider the 11mm - ooooh I hate settling for less!)

here's the possible replacement, no diamonds but OH so much less

What's making me nuts is spending this much for silver! But there is something about the look of this necklace in person

Love to hear your opinions or alternatives!

Wasted money. That's my opinion!

The ebay link didn't work. I think it was truncated maybe. Anyways, I love yurman and own a lot of yurman pieces. I've never purchased any yurman pieces via ebay and I think it would make me a bit nervous. Regarding the other link you posted, I wouldn't be interested in something that looks like yurman but is not (but I really dislike knock offs or "inspired" jewelry so it's really a matter of personal preference). If you do purchase on ebay, I would just be sure to verify that it is what they say it is. I don't know how you would do that outside of bringing it into the store and asking (but I don't know how that would work...perhaps you could say you received it as a gift and you just wanted to check ? Not sure) but make sure you can return it if it turns out to be fake.

Sorry for typos - I'm posting from my ipad on an airplane...

If the thing you love about the Yurman piece is that it's "Yurman" and that particular style, then by all means, get yourself a Yurman piece, because you won't be truly happy with anything else. Same reason people buy Tiffany. Knockoffs and copies won't really cut if you want that designer. A family friend of mine proudly showed me her new Yurman ring the other day. She'd been lusting after it for over a year and finally bought it for herself. The stone is a smoky quartz and I know she overpaid for what it is, but she was LUMINOUSLY happy with it and thus, the value was there.

If the thing you love is the citrine, then do consider shopping a stone separately from a setting and either going custom for the setting or finding a stock setting that shows off the stone. You may be surprised how inexpensive such a process is, especially if you are looking in silver settings. You will likely also get a much higher-quality stone.

My jeweler complains of David Yurman's shoddy workmanship. She's pretty honest with me, although I never saw a Yurman piece super up close and personal. I've only seen them in cases, and we have a David Yurman outlet store in the vicinity. His use of inexpensive treated stones is a put off to me, but for jewelry fans, and people not as concerned with gemstone quality, I assume he would be more popular. Judith Ripka is also someone to consider if you like those designs. She has a relatively affordable line on QVC in silver.

Hey Miss Vbnet!!!

My opinion... have you seen the Yurman in person? I'd just want to check that it really sings to you when you have it in your hands. I think the other piece is not enough of a deal to justify it taking the Yurman's place. Like if it was $250 or less, then maybe.

As far as getting a Yurman, I'd be careful on ebay for the above stated reasons. But how about bidig your time and searching well known / trusted re-sellers? I'm thinking

http://www.pearlmansjewelers.com/search.php?keywords=yurman

http://www.doverjewelry.com/products

These places might not have what you want now, but may in the future... you could totally stalk the sites. Also, Dover has an Ebay storefront and have crazy starting at $1 listings that they update with new items every week. It's totally worth signing up for their Ebay newsletter.

I think if you want a Yurman, you should get a real Yurman and have fun hunting down a bargain. And if in my stalking, I ever see something you might like, I'll let you know.

love ya, Debs

in the past they've also had yurman pieces for less.

you may be able to see some of the pieces at a local jewelery store. i know that they are available at a higher end store in santa cruz. i find some of the pieces interesting but chunky even for me who loves chunky jewelry.

I only deal with ebay if the seller has > 100 items sold with 100% satisfaction. I check the ratings and see what kinds of things he/she is selling. So, I'm ok with getting it on ebay then, -- the price is 1/2 retail.

I tried all the pieces yesterday at Nordstrom - great sales girl, I'll get the chain there if I do buy the enhancer online.

Maybe I'll shop around a bit though, never know what else might pop up and tickle my fancy!

Thanks for the reseller links, I'll check them out as well :D

I just think the prices for silver and dirt cheap stones are ridiculous. A lot of it is beautiful but I just can't rationalize the price. Maybe on ebay though if the price made sense given the components.

THANKS to all of you I have truly regained my senses. Yeah, I liked the chunky look but as I said b4, the retail price was totally ridiculous, and the ebay, even though it's half is STILL too much for what it is. Besides all that, I don't want to deal w/ tarnish. SOOO thank you for the gemstone threads. I actually saw several stones I like and am thinking about settings from simple to similar to DY with a row or 2 of diamonds around them.

Anybody have recommendations on economical setters? I love my Leon, but this is a casual thing, not worth a $$$ setting.

Thanks for keeping me sane!! :D

I managed a jewelry department that sold A LOT of Yurman jewelry, and let me tell you, their workmanship is the worst. Everything is mass produced, their company is more about intelligent marketing than actual well made jewelry, IMHO. I had more problems with Yurman repairs than any other designer we carried. If you do buy a Yurman piece, buy from a reputable store, at least repairs will be covered in the first few months if anything happened to it due to quality. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks starburst! And thanks to everyone. I do think I have dy out of my system now. I posted another thread about looking for a cushion or ascher citrine, got Bespoke and Peter T as recommendations. So now I'm thinking about biding my time and choosing a gem, then having it set. Not only do I get to pick everything the way I want this way, I can avoid silver. Nothing wrong with it, I'm Just not the greatest at putting things away right away and I'm afraid I would have to battle tarnish and I would rather shop than clean!

I actually bought a pair of the sterling silver Judith Ripka hoops on QVC ( without stones ). They were super inexpensive at $63.00 and so far they are wearing well.
