Hey guys, so the ring is done and waiting patiently for a good moment to pop up but I am having some second thoughts with regards to the side stones: they seem to be set a bit deep ... what to do you think? (see especially pics 2 and 5)

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/ok-redone-ring-much-happier.84168/

I mentionned it to the goldsmith and she told me that she would absolutely not set them more flush with the band and that the guy setting the stones would kill her if she requested it. Not exactly sure what her reason was, but I guess that it is meant to protect the stones from getting damaged/catching onto stuff. Since these are trillians they would indeed "stick out" (the center) if they were flush with the band. Do you think that the side stones look weird? What would you do? Am I overreacting?
Thanks!

Are you asking her to set them a bit higher then how they currently are set?? They seem a bit low but it is sort of hard to tell from the pictures, she probably wants to protect the corners. Do you have more close ups?

Yeah, I would set them a bit higher ... but I am not sure if that would be a smart/safe decision. I could get some more close-ups, don''t have any now. Hm.

Come on guys - do you think that the side stones look like they are set too deep? Or is ti just too hard to tell from the pics? Thanks for your input!

I have a wedding band with flush set princess stones, and yours is not flush set. I suppose it''s a matter of taste.
The sales person is not there to make friends with, she is there to do her job, and you''re there to shop. Don''t feel bad about asking her to re-do the ring.

Good luck!

I see what you mean, the side stones look more sunken in then flush fit - I''m not sure why they can''t set it flush fit, unless it is to protect the corners - except if it was ''flush'' -- wouldn''t the corners still be protected?? Perhaps the women just said they wouldn''t set them more flush because she didn''t want to deal with it?? There are lots of mens wedding bands around that have princess cut diamonds set flush fit which have corners, and they seem to be fine, I assume, otherwise they wouldn''t make them? If it is bothering you I would see if they could change it, I think if it was me I''d probably be bothered.

The ring is gorgeous though, best wishes for the proposal!

Thanks! Actually I have been pretty happy with the goldsmith (she made the ring and sends the stones and ring out to a third person to set the stones), so I don''t think that is is an issue of her not wanting to deal with me. Bling addict, I agree with your comment about the fact that the corners would still be protected with a flush fit, but maybe then the top of the stone would be exposed (since these are pointed stones, sort of like a flat pyramid). But it can''t be that much in any case! Hm. I think that I will have to change it since it really does seem to bother me (I would not have posted otherwise I guess).

Rob - I was looking at the Green Lake Jewelers web site, and this ring made me think of you. These triangular sides are sunken and I think they look pretty neat.

It''s good you have a good relationship with the goldsmith, and I hope that they are able to work it out to your satisfaction, it really is a stunning ring!

Quick update:
OK - brought the ring back in to have the side-stones slightly raised. My goldsmith was like " dude, you really have to give this ring to her and stop looking at it!!!" I guess she is afraid that I will find additional "flaws". For some reason she also thought that I had issues with the center stone again (which I had had reset once) so she was relieved that was not the case! Anyway, I hope that she can do it (she was mentioning that it was really hard to set the stone - but isn''t that her job???) and that I can finally just enjoy the ring (before it goes back into the safety deposit box

Will keep you posted and will have new pics when it is done!
Rob

It is hard to tell from the pictures, but if you are not 100% satisfied with it then it should be made 100% perfect IMO.
I am happy to hear that she is going to give it a go. Good luck!
