With a diamond shank, I would say no side diamonds.

You know, Ann, we of the NorCal GTG saw an amazing ring at Darren McClung''s last Friday: it had a haloed cushion center with STEP-CUT half-moon sidestones. It was such a stunning look....I had never seen step-cut half moons before and it was very evocative of trap sides, except for the half-moon shape of course.I think they would look great with a large round.![]()
You''re right that Michael Beaudry made his fortune with 3-sided pave shanks with halos with sidestones with pave around the basket and every other kind of ornamentation you can think of....all on one ring. I think it''s a lovely look -- Art Nouveau was wearing an incredible haloed (HUMONGOUS) white radiant by Michael Beaudry and I think it also had sidestones and pave all over. It was very intricate and detailed....and it looked perfect on her. I think it really depends on your personal style. Some people adore the elaborate Art Deco look, and others prefer something simpler. I like both but personally could not pull off a Michael Beaudry since I dress like a schlep (jeans, flip flops, t-shirt usually). Do you plan to wear this ring as an e-ring or as a RHR?
hey - how do they mount these step moons anyway??Date: 7/18/2006 1:20:16 AM

Art Nouveau, if I had the difficult decision of choosing one person''s jewelry box to keep, it would be yours. I fell in love with that Beaudry ring you had made with your recut diamond, and I love the pictures of that yellow diamond ring from the GTG thread, not to mention the pink sapphire pieces. I don''t even have places to SEE that kind of jewelry where I live, much less buy them! Anyway, I just wanted you to know that it is always a special treat to get to see one of your beautiful pieces!Date: 7/18/2006 2:04:19 AM

Hi Ann,
I have seen your posts on Pricescope about looking for a perfect big diamond ring since the fall of 2004. The prices for big diamonds and preciious metals have gone up quite a bit since then. Whatever shape you decide on, I''m sure you can come up with a great design. As for side stones, I like traps with radiant or other square or rectangular shapes, but not with rounds. For rounds, baguettes are the most classic. If you prefer something more unusual, half moons, pears, bullets or long shields would work. As already mentioned by others, I think Kristydarling''s round 3-stone ring with the pear sides, is a perfect example. A halo with a 3.5+ stone is not too much if you like it. Personally, I do not like a round halo on a big round stone, but a cushion shaped halo looks good. That''s what I did with my 2.45 round.
Good luck to your search and I hope you find your perfect ring soon!

Everyone is being so helpful. I really wish I could pack you all up, head to NYC, and let''s get this done. My head has been swimming for yes, years about this. I''ve gone through periods of oh, just forget it, to I''m going right now. My best friend I know is sick of hearing about it. My husband says go do it. But it is me who cannot decide.Date: 7/18/2006 2:04:19 AM
