Hi all,

I found an SI2 diamond that is eye clean except for a couple feathers that can be covered by prongs. My question is whether clarity grade-making feathers coming out from the girdle suggest a diamond that is more susceptible to chipping or cracking and whether such diamonds should be avoided. I really like the cut and look of the diamond, but I don''t want to chance a brittle diamond. I have included a cropping of the gia report noting the inclusions.

Your advice is appreciated.

That is a judgement call a trusted vendor or appraiser can make, so ask the vendor to evaluate the diamond for any potential durability concerns.

Some girdle feathers can be a problem, most are not.

If they are a problem, a good diamond setter can help in that he knows the best way to set the stone so it will be additionally protected.

Then insurance takes up the slack. Probably nothing would ever happen, but if it did you''re covered.

Rich has given you excellent advice.
If the style of setting you prefer will place prongs over or very close to the feathers then you will have a totaly eye clean SI2

Good to hear - thank you all for your responses.
