Finally - I have found an asscher which seems to fit my requirements and budget :)

Now I just need to get my head around a clarity question. I'm generally a fan of SI2 diamonds (I have 2 others which are completely eye clean) but have not had to deal with a feather at the girdle/ corner of a diamond. The video of the diamond is here:

You can only see a gimpse of the feather in one of the corners as the stone rotates but when the light hits it you can see it extends across 2 of the steps in the crown.

The in-house gemologist commented: "The feather inclusion extends from the pavilion to the girdle on the corner and up in to the crown. It does not seem to pose a durability concern and it is in an excellent position to be covered by a prong".

Would anyone like to comment on this issue with the feather? I have asked for clarification whether the feather breaks the surface of the diamond. Should I be concerned about an SI2 feather on the corner of an asscher like this? I like the idea of a completely eye clean stone once the feather is hidden under a prong, but I worry slighltly about whether the stone could break once its in a ring if I knocked it on the corner where the feather is. Or would that only really be a concern in an I1, I2 or I3 stone?

Re: SI2 asscher - Should I be concerned about corner feather

The AVC that is in my profile picture is an SI2 and it has a feather on the girdle that is kinda in the corner. The feather is near a prong but not covered by it. I can run my nail on the girdle and feel an itty bitty nick. Other than the feather, the stone is very clean. I have to say I was worried about the feather when I bought it but Jon assured me it was not a concern but you know I still worry so I bought ins for peace of mind. That was in 2009. I wear it everyday till recently ( because of new bling) and have never had a problem. I am very hard on my rings, you should see the platinum band it's in, it is wonkied shaped and shank slightly twisted coz I caught it in some metal shelving :o but the stone is still in original condition. ;)) So you know I would be ok with it. I would get ins...but I do that with all my $$ rings.
