Shrunken Sweater

HOW do I shrink a sweater on purpose? I bought the most perfect cotton sweater in the most perfect shade of sage green that has the most beautiful scalloped edging in a size XXL. I have been faking it with a belt over it, but I really would prefer to shrink it a size - even two.

It''s cotton blend or 100% cotton? If it''s 100% cotton (but the yarn wasn''t pre-shrunk, the label may or may not say) put that sucker in a hot water wash cycle and then dry the heck out of it on high heat. There you go.

It might not shrink. Cotton shrinks a bit then expands IME with cotton sweaters. If it is preshrunk, you''re probably out of luck. It may be possible to have it tailored, it all depends.
