For everyone who did a DIY or semi-DIY program please post it here! Also if possible please post where you got your materials and what materials or software you used. I am looking for ideas and inspiration. Not sure if I can do it, but want to make sure!
Hey Sarah, my dad made my programs with some card stock type recycled ivory paper we bought at a craft store (8x11.5 cut in half for like $1.50 at Kinko''s) and my dad put everything into ReadySetGo on his Mac. We only needed 60 programs, and it was just one sheet, printed on both sides on a laser printer using the envelope feed. It worked fairly well, but we just had the basics (parents, people of honor, and the necessary listings of things happening during the mass and page numbers for music, etc.). I don''t have a photo, but I basically just typed up what I wanted and he put it into the program, printed a couple samples on regular paper, proofread it, and go!
Actually, we had a silly laugh the day before the wedding when the spell check messed up a bunch of names, turning DH''s grandmother''s name (Dolores) into Dodoes and some other random name mess ups that were really hilarious!
My best friend at work designed the programs for me, using photoshop. I knew I wanted the program to be able to be used like a fan, since our outdoor ceremony was sure to be hot.
Included in the program was: bridal party information, the text of our ketuba (the jewish marriage contract) and a jewish ceremony "cheat sheet" since many of our guests weren''t jewish.
I gave her a template and text, and she did the layout. We printed it up (2-sided) on cardstock from xpdex (sp?). Cutting it out was the most time consuming since parts of the fan were rounded. We punched a hole in the bottom, inserted a heart-shaped brad and then put on ribbons. (brad and ribbons were from joann fabrics, i think).
People loved them, especially the cheat sheets. The rabbi was great about explaining stuff, but the guests really liked having something to take home to remember it by.
Sorry for the small threadjack - I''m in a similar situation as Jackie: Jewish ceremony, predominantly non-Jewish guests. Jackie, would you mind sharing the text of your "cheat sheet?"
I used a nice linen paper that i purchased a box of at Office Depot I believe. Mine wasn''t anything fancy... just front, inside, and back printed. I designed the program with Publisher and then had the nice people at Kinkos print them since I didn''t want to mess up the double sided printing.
