Not sure stereotype is the right word...but here is what I am looking for:

For me - looking at a RB, when I see arrows I think - oooh, nice! The arrows are sort of the barometer for how well the stone is cut (for me - sort of a quick way to judge).

I have no clue though, when you look at a cushion cut diamond - what shapes/patterns do you look for to know if it is well cut?

What about pears? When I see a pear, it just looks like a bunch of angles/cuts I can''t tell what I''m looking at...

So, if you''ve got a picture face up of the equivalent of RB "arrows" for cushions or pears - please show ''em!

Many thanks!!

I don''t have pics handy but in pears I like to see a nice teardrop shape (rounded at one end, pointed at the other). Obviously opinions vary as to chubbier or skinnier pears, but what I don''t like to see is a flattened area at the end where the pear should be nicely rounded.

I''ve noticed a few of these more "shield" shaped pears lately online.

Most people like to avoid a strong dark "bow tie" effect in pears, though some actually like it.
