Hello again,

I apologize for the self pitty post but I just wanted to share the most upsetting pictures to date - no room for discussion here, the flaws are evident. I am waiting for the vendor to return back to work so there is nothing I can do at the moment. Just a slight vent with you guys cause really no one else outside of the PS world can understand how upsetting this is. I don''t see how this can be fixed. OK... Let me go cry some more...

Elusive prong.JPG

In the first pic, a prong is not even touching the diamond.
#2 - Holy smokes....

Perfect symmetry.JPG

Ops.. No Pic

#3 again

Can you be specific about what the flaws are?

Ok. So I guess it is not so obvious. To me, the prong in the first pic is not touching the diamond and it''s pulled out. #2 and #3 the basket is off center and puled to the side.

I really don''t notice anything in your pictures. The basket one just looks like the ring itself is crooked on the line...

Do you by chance have better pictures?

You can see it better here. If not, it''s ok. Now I am embarrased I posted this in the first place.

Um, obvious to me that the head is on crooked and one of the prongs is asymmetrical. Send it back! Clearly it bothers you. And to demonstrate the crookedness, maybe take a photo on something more obviously at 90 degrees than your drawn line.

The pic with the line through makes it appear that the ring is not symmetrical. The head appears to be unsymmetrical to me as well.

I''m sure it will be fine once the jeweler gets back. Was a wax mold made first?

No I don''t think so. I am not really sure.

I honestly don''t know how perfect and symmetric a handmade ring is supposed to be. I know we scrutinize settings and stones at high magnification. Hopefully your vendor will see what you are unhappy with. If you were originally unhappy with the thickness of the prongs nothing is going to correct that. Are you happy with the way they slimmed down the prongs?

No you shouldn''t be embarrassed! I can see it in this picture for sure, the others were just less obvious to me. Have you contacted the vendor yet about it? They really need to make this right.

No, the ring is not handmade. I am not sure about the process, but it is not handmade for sure. I think the setter had a mold available. My 13 yr old was the one that pointed out the prong issue and the crookedness in the first place, it''s quite obvious at plain sight. The slimming down of the prongs was an improvement but came at a greater price, the setting was not like this at all. Thank you for answering.

Yes, I did but he is off this week, I need to wait for his return. This will be try #3, I'm not sure if this is going to get any better.
I wish I could return the setting. I'm not sure if the issues are notorious enough to ask for a refund. The setting did not come cheap.

It was pretty obvious to me in the first round of pictures, and I am not one of the super anal people. My ring has a crooked prong, and that doesn''t really bother me, but your ring is just crooked! It crosses some line for me (and clearly you as well) and I would have it fixed and not feel bad about it. This is NOT one of those cases where you are asking for impossible levels of perfection or sweating minute scratches invisible to the naked eye. It is possible to make a ring with the head on straighter, and the prongs more symmetric with one another.

Thank you, thank you, thank you *hugs*
Finally, I''m getting some validation. You just made my day !!!

it definitely looks crooked to me. maybe it''s the camera angle, but the photos give me a feeling of vertigo. i can''t explain what''s wrong with it, except to say it looks crooked, since i''m not very anal about rings, either.

i hope you can get it fixed soon!

OMGoodness.......it looks like something sat on it, pushed it down and flattened it some and pushed it off to the side....I hope it gets fixed. It almost looks like a start over with a new setting. This is awful. I am so so so sorry. Good Luck.

My thoughts, exactly!

You are justified! I am also a VERY DETAIL oriented person. I can see it! A similar thing happened to me and the jeweler has REFUSED to fix his mistake. Now I have to wait until AFTER the wedding to get the whole basket replaced (when we can afford it...wedding costs) and that''s IF they can just replace the basket without us having to buy a whole new setting, which would make me sad, because then it wouldn''t be the same ring that he gave me.

Get it fixed! It''ll drive you CRAZY!!! It has driven me crazy for months, and it doesn''t go away!

Thank you to all of you for your kind words and responses. The most upsetting thing is that in my eyes the vendor should not even accept this sort of job from the setter neither give me this piece of crap back to me to sit around with. WTF!
After much thought, I am NOT willing to sit around for another fix up job. I want my $1,400 setting money back, period, over, end of story. I am done.
Sorry for the angry post...

Lesco, realy you are in the right place - I have OOOOCCCCCCCDDDDDDD!!!!!!

I notice this kind of thing all day long - it drives me nuts.

Yes the symmetry is off and the stone looks smushed down into the setting.

My 6-prong is also slightly asymmetrical. After having adiscussion w/ a trusted SA he explained that when they mount individual diamonds,
they push/twist each prong to adequately secure the stone and might end up w/ slight asymmetry.

They told me I could send it to get corrected and I refused because I kinda like the small imperfection.

And it''s a testament to my overcoming my obsessiveness.

Whether it is obvious to anyone else or not, it IS obvious to you and it should be fixed. I hope that the jeweler is able to correct what is flawed.

I am sorry to hear your vendor refused to fix his/her mistakes. We have to look at the bright side... One day, we will have the ring we hoped for. I know how you feel, this is driving me nuts... No, it does not go away.
As far as I''m concerned, I better get my money back, Should not this be the case, I will make sure that EVERYONE knows about it. No more nice guy here.

Oh lesco, this is no fun for you.

Just wondering whether the vendor ever had a chance to see it or did he go away before it was sent back to you? It must be frustrating to have to live with this for the week, but I''ve no doubt that he will do what it takes to make things right. Hang tight, take a deep breath and work things out as soon as he returns. Send him the link to this thread so he can see the pictures.

Hi lesco - sorry you are unhappy with your setting. IMO you have a right to be, I noticed the asymmetry straight away. I find it hard to believe that a jeweller would ok this shoddy work and send it out like that. I would give them one more shot to rectify it and then if it''s still not perfect, then ask for a full refund.

Fingers crossed for you!

Yes, he did have a chance to see it. I have dealt with him in person, I work in the area. We met briefly last Thursday.
Lizzie, Diamond Dana, Honey... Thank you for your responses and for sending good vibes my way...

Oh. Bummer. Well, still show him the link to this thread as I'm sure many more PSrs will chime in to back you up on this one. I can totally see what's off about the setting.

I have yet to get my perfect ering yet, (taking a very long time shopping, eh???), but I do want to say this:

The ring will be perfect evough to leave the vendors only when you day it is perfect enough for you!! It is very obvious that this bothers you (and from the pics, it would definatly bother me too), so get it done, and get it done right!

You go girl...
