I found a fine Conway Setting for my gal.
The store did not want to produce a certification when I saw a stone - and it was supposedly rated SI2 by EGL. It fired on axis, but mostly at the edge of the rock. Upon inspection in an HA scope there was a very large defect/scratch all the way around the pavillion. I think this should have been an SI3 or worse.
I saw an HA stone - it really blinked back at me.
Does EGL fudge their certs? I want to get the diamond at the store, but they appear to be high - They want $12K for a 1.15 Carat G-SI1 HA. I see 1.25 Carat F-VS1 HAs on the internet for ~9500-10000.
What about the George Thomson guy down the street - can I get a ideal cut 1.25 F-VSx for $7-8K at this shop?
Basically I want a Ideal cut with good color 1.25-1.3 Carat for $7-8K. Diamonds.com has several, but the table is sometimes outside of the 53-57 degree table range. Is this OK?
Regards,
John
