Shouldn''t drop in Platinum pricing give me a better deal?

I am looking at buying a Platinum setting and have noticed that Platinum is at a nearly 3 year low in price right now. In fact, it''s down to almost half of what it was a month ago. Shouldn''t this translate to me getting a better price on a custom platinum setting? Anyone else have any luck negotiating this?

There are a lot of threads on this recently. Theoretically it should. But it doesn''t mean it will automatically. Negotiate!

Agree with Neatfreak above- theoretically, it should.

However, pricing on mountings and finished pieces is also dependent upon many factors - labor being chief among them. If you are having a custom piece done, there is a lot of man hours involved in the actual manufacture of such a piece and that is what you are paying for. The best bench jewelers, engravers, setters, etc in the industry charge a premium for their work as well.

If you take a stock cast piece that was $1000 when platinum was at its all-time high, then yes, you can conceivably purchase the same piece for less when the metal prices go down.

it all depends on when they bought their settings....if they bought them when they were high, chances are they won''t lower the price much...however goin direct to the maufacturer would give u the better price....Just like gas prices. Even though crude oil is down over 60% of its summer high, gas prices only have dropped about 35%
