I just purchased an engagement ring, and I am a bit concerned that I may have gotten a ring size that is not correct. See I took one of her rings that fits comfortably onto her right ring finger (she is left handed). It is an Australian size L 1/2. The ring I purchased was an American size 5.5. Should this be okay? I tried going for a slightly smaller size and then converting ring size regions. I thought this seems okay, but I''m not sure. I just don''t want to propose and then not be able to fit it on her finger. Thoughts? Is it okay and am I worrying over nothing?

From what I can find an L 1/2 is a bit bigger than a 5.5 in US sizes. More like 5.75...

Do you know how that ring fits her? Well? A bit big? Or a bit small? And also what kind of ring is it and what kind is the one you ordered? Same thickness?

I personally think it's a bit better to go bigger rather than smaller so you can be sure to get the ring on her finger...but it's so close that it's hard to say.

I don''t know how they convert, but it''s probably better if the ring is a little bigger. Usually, the fingers on the hand you write with are slightly bigger, so in this case her left ring finger may be larger than her right ring finger. Just something to keep in mind.

Also note that if she is going to wear a wedding band with this ring, it will result in a tighter fit.

Here''s a chart that may help.

http://www.celtarts.com/ring_size.htm

Normally, the dominant hand is bigger, by how much varies from person to person. Plus, a wedding band will make it fit tighter. It looks like you should be going with maybe at least a 6 1/4-6 1/2 to me, as she wears a 6 on her non-dominant finger.

Normally, the dominant hand is bigger, but not in my case. My left hand (I''m a leftie) is 1.5 sizes smaller than my right.
It''s probably good if the ring is a bit big. They are usually easier to size down than up, plus once you add the band it may fit her a bit tighter too.
Good luck

Interesting!

My dominant is bigger by 1 1/4 sizes. Thank God I'm right handed.

My dominant is smaller too. Weird!

My left hand is usually a M 1/2 which is a US 6 1/4 however it fluctuates and goes down to a L 1/2 which is about 5.85 however my right is about a 6.5. If the ring is slightly to small they might be able to shave it down a little, they did this to my ring and you can't tell :).

Sorry about my typo, but I meant to say that she is RIGHT handed (I mistakenly typed left handed). Should the 5.5 be okay then?

If she's like me it'll be close. I'm right handed and thin bands I wear a 5.75 but thicker bands I need a 6. My left hand is a 5.25, but a 5 if I'm cold.

Hopefully if it doesn't fit her just right it'll be on the big side and most rings can be sized easily enough provided it's not an eternity setting.

Maybe, I would just leave it as is and hope for the best. No sense in trying to change it when you don''t know which way to go. Good luck!
