Hi, all. I recently had my diamond in my rotated. I went to pick it up yest. and outside the prongs seemed more bent up and the white gold was not white anymore. I went to the mall afterwards to do some shopping and under those bright lights could not see the difference in color. Anyways, to make a long story short...I made my FI go back to the jeweler and have them fix the problem. They said they would polish the prongs and re-rhodium plate them. My question is, should the prongs be so bent up? They probably are not so bent up, but I can see creases. Well, polishing and re-plating solve this? Thanks!

The prongs should not be bent in a strange way. Perhaps you could post a pic so we can see what you mean?

I would post a pic but it''s getting fixed (hopefully.) It''s not bent in a wierd way, but I can see stress lines...probably from taking the diamond out and then resetting it.

I wouldn''t think they should be damaged like that if they were careful. I watched the jeweller take my diamond out of its old 6 prong setting, and he just barely bent 2 of the prongs. It''s so slight I could easily re-use that setting with a different stone, as he suggested. Hope yours comes back better.

Can you explain what you mean by this? What was the problem that led you to take the ring in?

I had it rotated to try to hide an inclusion visible from the side. It actually seems worse then what it was before. If you look up my first thread there are pics of a tiny inclusion and I tried to have them put it under a prong or wanted to hide it more but actually ended up making it worse. Now instead of seeing the inclusion from the side where my shank runs, I can see it from the U. I hope that makes sense? Now, I don''t even care about the inclusion part...I''m more sad about the prongs. My diamond is a VS2 and I can''t see anything from the top, but from the side I could...but only if I stared at it b/c it is so tiny and b/c my setting is a U prong and the the diamond is so visible. Do I have a right to be so upset? I just wish that they could have said, "rotating it wouldn''t solve anything but band up your prongs." I would have been fine with that.

Has anyone had their stone reset and did your prongs look bent? Or does anyone one who deals with jewelery have this happen? Should it be normal because they are bending and rebending the prongs? Any feedback would be great. Thanks.
