Ok I haven’t been posting very much lately; my mother in law has been battling kidney cancer for the last two months. However I have recently bought some new eye candy (will post pictures as soon as possible). My question is I have a friend that is recently divorced and wants to sell her 2.25 marquise diamond. She is asking for $5500.00 she needs the money to make her mortgage payment that’s why the price is so cheap. Here are the specs j color (a warm brownish pink) s1 2 a feather on the side.
Than specs are from GIA appraisal. The diamond is set in a heavy plat setting that is very simple but beautiful
Depth: 66.3%
Table: 57%
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Good
Girdle: Thin to very thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: Medium
Measurements: 12.71*6.77*4.49
Ratio: 1.88

Go for it! It sounds beautiful.

Sadly, I don''t know anything about marquise diamonds. However, this does sound like a great deal. I would have it appraised first just for peace of mind. I definitely don''t think there is anything wrong with buying a stone from a divorce. I think it would be a shame for it to sit in her jewelry box and bring her pain every time she sees it. Instead, it should bring someone else joy...like you. Best wishes for your friend''s post divorce and for your mother''s recovery.

The diamond is deep and with part of the girdle being very thick, it may look smaller than it is. But marquise diamonds look bigger than most other cuts anyway. Really, you have seen it. To me, the color is a turnoff, but if you really like it, I would go for it. However, I wouldn''t buy it just because it is a deal. Do you actually like marquise diamonds? $5500 is still a lot of money and if you simply want some new bling, maybe you would rather have diamond earrings or a bracelet than a diamond that you purchased just bought because it is a deal.

Well jasmine actually I want a marquis after seeing you beauty

. For my birthday my hubby bought me .75 E Vs1 bezel set diamond earrings and an 18k bangle with diamond set in plat. If I buy the ring I have found a setting I would like to put it in.

Or I might get this ring 3.05 sapphire set in plat.

Well, that is definitelyTHE setting to put it in, especially with the color as you describe it. That is gorgous. The only thing I would change is that I would out some claw prongs in there as well as the V's.

Oh boy, love

the sapphire. I would have to go with that.

*bump* Trying to get all the comments I can.

i can''t help with the marquise either but the setting you chose would be a beautiful place for what you''re describing. I''d probably go with the sapphire but that''s partly b/c I want one

. Which do you prefer??

Actually I found this ring when I went back to the jeweler and I like this better than the blue sapphire. This is a reddish pink 2.57sapphireset in plat. Anyone if you are in the Ft Myers area needs to go to Hammish Jewelers for their sapphires.

I am going to take a couple of days to decide between the sapphire and the diamond. However I think my hubby wants me to go with the diamond due to tit costing less.

dang forgot the photo

Sorry for the photo quality the color is much better than the photo

I LOVE THE SAPPHIRE

Hi Angel,

I''m confused about how a J-color stone is considered "warm brownish pink"? Is that your interpretation or does it actually state it that way on the GIA report? I don''t know much about fancy colors, but I know a J is supposed to be "near-colorless"... just wondering.

As for whether or not you should purchase your friend''s stone, I did "pricescope your diamond" for a marquise with similar stats, and came up with a few:
2.24 -- J SI2 68.3% 59% EGL stk-vtk no gd gd mb 11.29x7.03x4.80 $6901
2.25 -- I SI2
66% 54% GIA m-vtk no gd gd 12.51-6.74-4.45 $10803
2.54
-- K SI2 66.4% 60% GIA thn-ex.thk no gd vg stg 12.08x7.23x4.80 $8808

Hopefully that gives you a sense of how much her marquise might be worth by today''s standards, but keep in mind if she were to sell it elsewhere, she would probably receive considerably less than retail for it. If your objective is to get a stone that you love and also help out your friend with her mortgage, then $5500 would be kind of you to pay. Otherwise, depending on the cut of the stone, she may not get that asking price from anyone else. Just my initial thoughts... hope that helps!

PS - LOVE the red sapphire!

My opinion is that you may be the only one who would pay $5000 for it. If she were to put in ad in the paper she would most likely have to lower her price.
