So I have been ogling the GOG Signature Cushions for months now and am considering setting one in a pendant. Probably about between 1 and 1.5 cts.

Do you guys think that a pendant would be a good use of such a beautiful stone and would show off it''s chunky facets? I probably would go for a mostly traditional setting and, while I love bezels, I would not use one here. What do you all think?

I would love to hear from our chunky cushion lovers!

Gayle, my cushion is loose right now and I just took some plastic-baggy neck shots for you, would you like me to post them (and completely embarrass myself, lol).

Only problem with a pendant is that you don''t get to look at the beauty of the stone all the time.

Shimmer, that would be very helpful. Thanks for the offer!

Joe, you have an excellent point. I''d have to carry a mirror around all the time!

I think the smaller stones would be perfect for a pendant!

HI:

I think I''ll, once again, follow DS around the boards. What she said! Less is more with these stones--especially in a pendant.

cheers--Sharon

DS and Sharon, I was thinking along the same lines, that less is more. Maybe just a simple one. I was thinking no bezel but then I saw some beauties with small, milligrain bezels and like that too.

What would you do?

HI:

What you just said! Modern with clean lines (bezel), yet vintage feel (millgrain). Maximum impact via small yield. Sounds so clinical, but would be really wonderful!

Ok, here are two pics, the second with my 0.59 tranny bezel ring next to it. The OMC is 1.09 L VS1.

I have a .75 GOG Chunky Cushion pendant and i love it!!! I got a beautiful 0.75 F I1 chunky cushion that was one of the prototypes Jonathan did to perfect the cut. Link to my pendant is below:

Gets sooo many compliments and just looks so sparkly even when it needs a good clean.

Would definately recommend it!!

Let us know what you decide.

Honestly Gaylet,
owing one of these myself, and knowing how much fun is it to admire
the facets and amazing colours they produce all the time - personally,
I would do a ring over a pendant.
Do you have RHR''s? You could always make a three stone with coloured gems or something to make it something different.

I would encourage you, for a stone that size, to consider a ring, but that''s just my 2c

Gayle - I would put such a stone into a pendant. I love pendants, and I see nothing wrong with putting an attractive stone in there. I bet it will look fantastic.

BTW, I currently have a 0.7ct F VS1 Crafted by Infinity set as a pendant. Perhaps it is a higher color, clarity, and cut than necessary for a pendant stone, but it sure does look fantastic. People sitting across from me at restaurants or stones remark on it. We are so used to seeing lower quality pendants, that the exceptional is, well, exceptional.

There are good arguments either way so I guess the choice really is - will you get more enjoyment out of other people having more time to see it or will you get more enjoyment out of being able to see it yourself. Around your neck it will be like having a tattoo on your back you can only see in the mirror lol

Gosh, that is a hard decision! I love milgrain bezels, but I have in my mind that I might like something like VanCraeynest''s fleur-de-lis head (with the double prongs) with a bail as a pendant for one of these. Okay, I just gave away my idea...but the more the merrier!

You all have such good points both ways- you see my dilemma! Maybe I should just upgrade my e-ring to a GOG cushion and put my 1.4 ct from there into a pendant? I can see myself staring at that beauty on my finger all day long! The e-ring upgrade has been one possbility (20th anniversary upcoming). I''m trying to decide between two options: 1) upgrade e-ring to a larger center stone and use existing RB for pendant or, 2) just add some eternity bands to my existing set (I''m crazy about the ones from Singlestone) and get a cushion for a pendant.

Thanks, Shimmer for the pics. It''s great to see a neck shot. And I think it looks great on you, btw. I also appreciate everyone who chimed in about their pendant and cushion experiences and ideas.

Diamondseeker, I am intrigued by your Van Craeynest idea for whatever stone I choose. I browsed around and saw one or two views of the fleur de lis head-it is lovely-and I have been considering a pendant with a bale. Plus, I''m from New Orleans so it all fits!

This is such fun!

I''d love to see someone do that!

Honestly, I wrestle all the time about whether I want to change my e-ring stone. Your 1.4 is actually the size I really wanted when I started looking and I wish I had gotten it. I like that size better on me. I think if you stay with your 1.4 for your e-ring, then a 1 ct. OMC would be great for a pendant. But if you turn the 1.4 into a pendant, then you''re going to need about a 2 ct. OMC to get a ring stone just a little larger than your pendant diameter-wise. So I guess you need to think about what you want long term since one decision effects the other.

also - if you are truly interested in getting the cushion just go ahead and buy it and you can decide later which one you want to do what with...

Isn''t your stone a 1.6? How much difference do you really think that little bit makes? Is it a mind issue for you DS? Something at the 1.5 mark that tips it for you? (sorry for going off topic lol)

HI:

Yanno, with your lovely budget for a 1-1.5ctw stone, you could get TWO smaller stones--one for your finger and one for your neck! Just sayin''

Sara, I think these super-ideals are so bright that they appear larger in most lighting than diamonds that are not as well cut. Every square mm reflects light! I was used to a 1 ct. ring all those years, and I really wanted about a 1.4 to have some visual difference from my old 1 ct. (which was 6.5mm...1.6 stone is 7.6mm). No one around me in real life really wears larger than a 1.0-1.2 ct. stone and many wear smaller than that because none have ever upgraded. My diamond is really perfect and I love it, but I feel like it is just a little much for my lifestyle. Everytime I think about trading it, I do stop short, partially because I can't bear the thought of having to deal with getting a new setting!!! I think I'd really like a smaller solitaire AND one of Jon's new OMC cushions in a Van Craeynest setting! Then I'd have a ring to leave each daughter.
