Should I sell my ring to fund a new one? HELP!

But Niel, thank you for taking the time to make a visual!!! so kind of you!!

Oh I really hate to say this but I think my train of thought was correct. I see the pink halo and I think your diamond looks browner with a yellow tint.

But what do YOU think?

I am honestly torn. I am tempted to have it pulled out and look at it in a plain white gold setting, and see how it looks...

But i do want to use that specific pic to play with, because that is really the stone at its PEAK color.

Oh, and one more thing. Changing to a lower color halo might not even do what you are wanting because well cut little round brilliants are going to face up really white even in I-J color and still probably result in looking whiter than your cushion.

True! True! True! I have I colored ACA melee and they are WHITE.

Ok so here is an idea of what it would look like with no halo...honestly, this may end up being my best bet...

Just to play devils advocate I did a yellow one for you. I think it compliments your centers color.

This absolutely plays up the yellowness of the center- but I wan't to make it look whiter, not more yellow =(

Anyone have any other ideas?

A few more. I apologize I didn't read the first bit so if this goes against something you've said I apologize. But green? French cut emeralds for contrast and a bezel to keep the stone looking white.

And french cuts like that could be done in blue or red too.

Thanks Niel! I love the idea of Emeralds- but do you think this makes it look too much like a right hand ring?!?!

This is like torture. lol.

Just for fun I made a much softer pink version- this would actually be cheaper for me, as instead of fancy intense it could be achieved with plain old fancy pink. What do you think?

Thanks Charmypoo! I will contact them. From what I have seen on PS they aren't good through email- should I just call them and ask?

I think different people have different experiences. I always hear back from ERD and SK by email really quickly. There are others that people say are fast by email but never respond to me.

I know your opinion is the only one that counts :)) , but I want to say that I like your stone in the current halo about 100,000 times better than I like the image of the ring without a halo. I really like cushions in a halo for some reason. I think it compliments them to have a sparkly border around them! And I would not like the colored stone halos for an e-ring for the most part. I still think the current halo is the most complimentary thing for that diamond.

Thanks everyone...

I found the two rings that inspired my thought process re: the pink diamonds on a lower colored stone

I LOVE both Ace Bruins and Sparkle Blinded's rings!!!! They both have Leon settings.

For your particular stone (and it is hard to see the true color from a photo) I like the option without halo best OR I would keep it in the current halo. A green halo is also really pretty and complements your stone but you have to be sure that you will continue to like it for a longer timeframe.

Are you absolutely sure you are in love with the lower color? I ask because you seem quite determined to make it look whiter. But whatever you do, the stone remains a yummy creamy color.

Perhaps the no halo option would be best as there will be no contrast with whiter stone, but perhaps the stones on the shank will then start to bother you??? What about a lovely solitaire in rose or white gold?

Do you have a picture that shows what the color looks like most of the time? I don't know if it is the picture or my screen but it looks like it has a greyish tint to it.

Here is a pic of what it looks like majority of the time ( 75%issh)

Def. not grey- i would say the term most applicable is "buttery"

Hi Acinom!

I fell in love with the sparkle, the size, and the visual interest. However, i bought it always having the intention of re-setting it into pink, because i had seen other lower colored diamonds set in pink and loved the look. But now i am second guessing myself- hence signing up for PS. All I have done is confuse myself further. hmmmm...

Perhaps you could go to a jeweler and have some pink diamonds laid out for you. It's best to see the effect in person.
I am sure that you will have your dreamring within a couple of months!

Thank you ladies for your thoughts!

I think what is really killing me is knowing (as you mentioned diamondseeker) that both these setting total $6K+ , but I would be lucky to get 25% of that.

My ultimate wish is:

1) To keep the diamond from my original ER and have it set into a pendant to wear every day
2) To sell my original setting + my henri daussi setting and only have to put in a little more for my "dream" pink halo

I have started getting quotes for the pink halo setting I want, and it is $$$$ for sure. However, i am always one for a project and so have been trying to source the tiny pink diamond melee needed myself, and then use the money from selling the other two settings for the new setting ( so all I have to purchase out of pocket, technically, is the pink melee)

I have been creeping on PS for months looking at various warm stones in whiter halos, and though I know many people love them the contrast just isn't for me. If the pink halo is not forseeable in the near future, I may end up getting the stones switched out to lower color stones- it bothers me that much!!

That said, The Daussi setting is beautiful in and of itself and I would hope someone would snatch it up if i offered it up cheaply enough.

And for the record- DH is NOT ok with me just keeping everything ;)

His opinion: sell my original setting. keep daussi setting, and change to lower color stones if it bothers me so much. The only reason he let me get the Daussi now was because we got it for an unbelievably good deal.

...but I still want a pink halo. Sigh.

i haven't read the whole thread yet, and someone else chime in if this isn't feasible...but if you can change the diamonds to a lower color in the daussi halo, why can't you just change those to pink stones instead? have you considered using non diamond pink stones instead - it'd be less $$ and you have more options of "pinks"! just a thought

VC is in the process of building a pink halo cushion engagement ring for me right now. If you have a couple of weeks to make your decision, I'll gladly post pictures of his finished creation. I'll note that mine will have the pink diamonds set in a rose gold halo.

Best of luck!

Here's an idea you may not have thought of...why not see if you can have a jeweler replace the diamonds on the current halo with pink or yellow ones? (I have to agree...the yellow do flatter the center stone more than the pink). If the melee are really nice, you may be able to get credit for them towards the labor and new stones.

I think that's the prettiest Daussi I've ever seen! The proportions of the halo to the center are just perfect.

I'm another one who's not a big fan of the pink ... though I think going with lower-color melee could solve your problems, particularly if you go for low-color single-cuts. Less flash = less bright white, and the big single-cut facets should complement the big facets on the Daussi cushion.

ETA: And to get back to the original question ... NO, do not sell the settings! It's a huge loss financially.

Hi Everyone!

Winkself, lovebug- that is exactly what I am exploring right now, having the white switched out for pink. Have received two quotes for pinks and waiting to hear back from some other people.

After reading everyones comments, I feel like I need to see it in person. So this is my new mission.

As far as selling anything to help pay for ( my original question)...still up for debate.

I know you are sick of hearing this, but I think this ring looks GORGEOUS as it is!!! But light pinks might be fine. And I LOVE Circe's suggestion of having a new setting made with lower color single cuts. That would be amazing!

Hi md9nyc!!! What color is your center stone? is it square cushion or rectangular ? I would LOVE to see the finished product! I have plenty of time to decide on mine =)

I'm using a 1.13ct G VS2 Canera Antique Cushion. It's roughly 6mm x 6mm, thus square shaped.

I used sparkleblined and acebruin's as inspiration for mine as well.

Honestly I think you need to sell the ring. A colored halo isn't going to make you like the warmer stone IMO any you'll be out $$$ for a custom setting. This isn't a light pink stone that you are trying to bring the pink out of after all.

I seriously think it is my laptop screen because the diamond is looking greenish and the halo pinkish ... LOL. I can't judge the color but your gut tells you to go with a pink diamond halo ... and I say go with it. My gut is never wrong. I suggest going with a lighter pink versus vibrant pink.

Are you thinking of keeping it the same colour or going rose gold?

I feel like keeping it all a white metal would help with the brown tint you are seeing. I agree light pink would be best.

My fear for you is that even if you change the color of the melee, you still won't be happy with the color of the center...
