i found a stone that i am happy with but i still have unresolved questions about settings......should i reserve it or let it ride?? im not proposing for 3.5 months so if it gets snagged im not exactly screwed. i dont wanna go through the hasssle of riding around town transferring money from one account to another.....ya think i have a day or 2?

Are the setting and stone coming from the same people? If yes, I would hold off until your questions are resolved. If you have found a stone you love from a vendor separate from the setting, I say go for it. It takes serious time to find the right stone for you. The whole shopping, purchasing and setting process can easily take more than 3.5 months.

I think it depends on how common or rare the stone is. If it''s a one carat round, G-H SI1, I think there''ll be plenty to choose from. But if it''s a .95 or a 1.4 or something harder to find, then I''d reserve it. Many people buy the stone and setting at different places. It''s a little more trouble that way, but when you find the right diamond, it''s worth it!

If you''ve found a stone you''re elated about & are positive that its the one you want, then go ahead & buy it. I see no reason to wait. Choosing a stone is perhaps the hardest decision you will make, second is the setting.

Keep in mind too, that time will fly as you are trying to figure out the setting & if you choose to have one custom made, might take 6-8 wks for it to be completed. With stone in hand, the whole project will go much smoother than if you''re down to the wire & have to make an important decision on 2 things at the same time.
