Hi there. I am just looking for a little advice if anyone wants to give it. I just upgraded from a .66 carat to a 1.71 RB and feel my old setting is not doing the new stone justice as it is very dainty and made for a smaller stone. So I am considering either a Halo or just a classic Tiffany style setting. The Tiffany would run around $200 and the jewler could add a new Halo head to my old pave shank for around $600. I''m really not wanting to spend much more so a whole new setting is out for now, but I could also wait to do that later. Any opinions? I''m sorry my pics are not very good!

Also, I have very small fingers but tend to like bigger, bulkier jewelery in general so size is not an issue.

Thanks for the feedback!

I actually think it is very pretty and delicate; I like it. I guess you need to decide if you like it. Have you tried on other settings and seen what speaks to your heart?

Thanks skippy, I do love it too, but I just feel like with the investment we made, the stone should stand out more- its really hard to tell from the pic. Its like it sits down too low in the setting or something. It seems like when I try on the other two settings and compare them to mine, there is so much more wow factor!

I would say that if you do reset it, I personally would not recommend a Halo setting. I don''t like them with larger diamonds like yours. The halo tends to hide the true size of the diamond IMHO, and your diamond should be able to hold its own nicely and beautifully.

I agree with others here and actually really like the setting your diamond is in now - it''s beautiful. I can understand your need for "wow" factor though. You need to consider how a new ER will sit and look with your wedder also I think, as right now they look perfect together. Good luck!

I actually think it looks absolutely beautiful the way it is. But still, you have to love it. Can you find a stock tiffany setting with a in similiar size stone just to compare? It''d be great to get a pic of that and put them side by side. As for the halo, where you talking about adding a halo but still using the same shank?

I just saw that you said the jeweler could add a halo head to the pave shank, so that answered by last question. Can the stone be raised in the current setting?

I''m no help because I think your set is just stunning the way it is. Actually, I think that most of pricescope prefers their diamonds to be set as low as possible. I''m not sure if I agree or not. Mine is in a high setting and although sometimes I wonder what a lower setting would look like, I swear the height of it makes the diamond look way bigger than it really is because it really just POPS! I guess maybe that is the wow factor you might be looking for. I wonder if you could just get your diamond raised up a bit in the current setting? I don''t think I could ever halo a stone that big, but I like more delicate jewelry. If you like yours big and bulky, that might be perfect for you. I also second the idea to go to a Tiffany store and try on a solitaire close to the size of yours. There are so many beautiful rings out there, and really only you can decide what''s perfect for you.

I have a 1.77 and had a halo made for it and I love it. I do have big fingers (7.5) so the halo gives my finger the coverage I was looking for. My halo is delicate and not overpowers the main stone.

If you really want a halo go for it. You have to wear and love the ring. GL

Thanks for the input. I did actually try on a similar diamond at Tiffanys and even my husband who thinks I''m crazy for worrying about this was amazed at how much more stunning it was in comparison to mine. The specs were similar to mine but I wonder if it was partially just because that diamond was so incredible. And, since Tiffany doesn''t sell the settings, if I get a stock one somewhere else will it look as good? I know that little details can make a big difference.

Well I did it! I re set in a classic Tiffany setting and I LOVE it. Before I had a pretty ring, but know I just see a gorgeous diamond. It looks great with the wedding band too. Im very happy I didn''t go for the halo. It definately doesn''t need it. When I get a pic I''ll post it. Thanks everyone

Good for you! It sounds beautiful. Now you have to go over to SMTR and post pictures of your re-set. Can''t wait to see it.
