Frankly, the price for this ''used'' stone is not a good deal. You can purchase a stone of similar proportion with a GIA or AGS grading report for about the same money. The advantage to used purchase is a great price. But the disadvantage to a used purchase is the lack of upgradability and a warranty. Unfortunately, no upgradability and no warranty for this price = not such a great deal. Sorry, don''t mean to rain on your parade...........

I''d go for the bangle. Sounds like you really want it. I don''t wear braclelets but love this one!!!

Rod, when I just did "Pricescope your diamond" everything came back at least $1K more (?).

Anyway, Flower, this is a tough one. If you've seen the diamond and it's pleasing to your eye and you would be satisfied with it in a pendant, then go for it. If you would always have the nagging wonder of whether it was a good stone or not (and you don't have enough info to judge the cut based on just what's on this GIA cert), then no.

Personally I would invest the same amount of $ in a stone of known cut quality (even if it was a little smaller) and have that pendant made anyway, LOL!

i would agree with rod, this isn''t a great secondhand price. i know you know nice diamonds, so if you really feel like this is a good stone, see if you can get a better price. otherwise, use your $$$ on a new piece that you will be happy with.

I did a general search and stones in this size began at $2900 and went up. You are correct, many were several hundred to as much as $1,000 more. But, generally, one should be able to purchase a used stone for significantly less than the retail equivalent, shouldn''t they?

Flower, you should also factor in the cost of an appraisal to that price. Having been worn, there is a possibility that the stone could have been damaged in some minute way that could in fact cause a drop in clarity. This needs to be checked by a competent independent appraiser. Hate to pay for VS clarity to find it''s now SI. Just a thought.

Oh, you're right--I wasn't taking the second-hand factor into account, just the size, color and clarity.

I think if it were me, I''d be focusing on how important it is to me to help that person out in their time of need. If you really want to help, make a fair offer that you feel good about and see if that sits well with her.

This is different than a usual "Should I buy it?" question. This is helping someone vs. buying something else...neither or right or wrong! If it is a lovely stone you''d be happy with, it is nice for both parties. If it isn''t something that you would feel good about wearing, it isn''t the right time.

Rod,
thank you very much for your advice. I am bit calm down right now!

yes, it''s used..so maybe the price is not the much for desparate.
reason of why I was intresting to buy the ring is cause it''s from harry winston.I know her DH bought it
from them ( in the Tokyo shop) I thought around $7000 ( not sure)

*Unfortunately, no upgradability and no warranty for this price = not such a great deal*
Rod, thank you very much for your advice, I almost say ** I will buy it!!*

Hey!!

Dee*Jay, I have seeing the stone before and it''s sparkle and in ritani setting like.
but I don''t need E-ring , so I was thinking to remake pendant by using the center stone,
but... if theonly setting left ,I can''t use

flower,
if the ring is a harry winston, your friend might think about consigning it with Bill Pearlman. He sells and consigns highend designer jewelry and may be interested in working with her. it might be worth a phone call or email. Pearlmans Jewelers. I''d hate to see a HW peice taken apart, i would think it wouldn''t be worth as much as the total package.

As usual, mrsslavo said exactly what I was thinking! Don''t take a diamond out of a Harry Winston setting! Besides Pearlman''s, Signed Pieces might make her an offer on it.

Flower get the WF bangle, you won''t be disappointed!!!

I don''t think this ring is such a bad price. If it is HW and that is proveable I think it would represent a decent value. I have seen HW pieces sell at auction for premium to what their component parts might sell for.

It depends on the overall condition and so on. Of course, if you don''t *need* the ring, then it is of little value to you.

I never think of a diamond as *second hand*. Heck they are already thousands (or is it millions?) of years old when they are mined, so no *new* diamonds in my eyes.

Let''s put it this way: if you bought this ring for that price and then you tired of it and wanted to sell it later, I think you could get fairly close to your money back. That is certainly hard if you were buying retail.

hi! mrssalvo
I'd hate to do taken apart.. she is not in USA and she need money right way.
she was thinking to sell the ring at auction in the Japan , but it's takes time so she gave up.
I will talk with my friend tonight about it more. if I can help her somehow.
diamondseeker. yes it's very beautiful stone. and setting is nice.( very small diamond's on )
I would have feel guilty to take apart.

I am bit worry if I sale the stone, what she would think....but I believe she doesn't have much emotion with the ring for some reason. that's the why I thought to make a pendant at first.

well I will keep update because I have to answer to her until tonight.
