I am in the early stages of choosing a stone for my e-ring and I keep changing my mind about what size I like. So far, its between approx 2.25 ct or 2.75 ct. I''m considering 3 ct also, but that might be too big for my taste.

My ring size is about 4.75-5, still deciding about that too.

Anyhow, since my fingers are not large but not tiny, I want something substantial yet not too overwhelming. I also don''t want to upgrade so I want to get something I can live with forever.

Any ideas?

Just repeat to yourself...there''s no such thing as too big!

No really, have you tried on any diamonds in that size range? Might help to give you a better idea of what you would feel comfortable in.

I am all for the bigger the better. Ring size matters, as does stone shape, so before you hone in on size, pick what shape you like and see what looks most appropriate/proportionate on your finger...

if you don''t want to upgrade, I say go for the 3 carat

I wear a 5 1/2 and my stone is 2.5, although I love this stone, I wish it were bigger...

oh yeah, i probably should have mentioned that I want a round brilliant.

I''ve been trying those sizes on so I have an idea about how things would look. 3ct looks a little big, but I''d get used to it. Maybe bigger is better. I doubt anyone ever bought a ring and thought "I wish I went smaller".

But if someone out there did, tell me your story!

I also don''t want a big stone to get in the way of everyday life. I don''t have an active job or anything, but I don''t want the ring to poke someone''s eye out or maybe get snagged on things.

If you have a price limit in mind, then look for the best stone you can get within your size range.Go for quality over size. I would put cut first and then decide what color and clarity you would be happy with.

If price is not a consideration, then go for the three carat. You won't be sorry to have a stone that is "too big." If you pick the right setting and don't have it set too high it won't be more apt to get caught on things or bumped into than a 2 carat stone.

My ring size is 4.25 and I don''t think 3 carat is too big. I have a 2.56 ct, IF and I always wish that I would have gotten a 3.0 carat or even bigger by trading off a little on the clarity. My hubby loved the IF grade though and I couldn''t argue him down. I did try a 5.0 carat and I could not believe that I actually thought it was just a little too big.

I am sorry but I have to put size over cut. I am not saying cut is not important but I am willing to go off ideal to excellent or VG just to get my size.
