Hi Everyone,

When you give a new diamond as a gift, should you also give a loupe with it?

That really depends will the receiver appreciate the loupe or will they look at you like you just came from Mars?

I don''t think it is necessary but some may appreciate it :)

no. it''s just not very romantic to me

If they are neurotic like me, and there is the chance they will find an inclusion with it, I would say no, unless you are sure they were ok with that. It would bug me knowing that I could find the inclusion, then I would imagine I could see it when I couldn''t.

I would say no as well. Most people wouldn''t use it and those who would probably already own one or would just buy one themselves :)

I don''t think anobody but us PS''ers would think a loupe was very exciting. But that''s just my opinion.

personally I think everyone who owns a ring should have one!
Being able too check your ring for damage and also too ID the diamond when having work done on it is priceless peace of mind!!
That said dont give them at the same time thats kinda tacky....
a few days later say hey you need this for checking your ring...

I don''t think a loupe is necessary to give with a diamond. If you are buying one then sure, you want to look at the diamond to get an idea of the cut, shape, etc. but I don''t think the person on the receiving end need to inspect the diamond. I know few jewelers can give you pictures of the diamond from different angles, taken with a microscope if you want to show her.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the input. I quess I was thinking like you STRMRDR, I thought it would be nice to see the laser inscription on it and be able to make sure no one pulls a fast one, the old switcharoo ya know.

I think waiting a few days to give would be best.

I think it''s a good idea so you can check prongs and learn your inclusion pattern and how to recognise it.

I recommend the Belomo x10 triplet.

Make sure it has a black casing.

Pandora... why?

Maybe not right away after proposing or giving a gift, but it could be a fun thing to do later on when you are showing her hte paperwork or showing off how much research you did

. She might get a kick out of how much effort you put into it by showing her all of the information you know about the stone.

Only if it VS or above. I really disliked my old diamond once I saw it magnified!!! I had never noticed the inclusion in it before that.

bright casings can reflect into the ring and make it harder too use and create distracting reflections and color shifts.
For casual use it don''t matter a whole lot.

Well I would think it was HILARIOUS and AWESOME if my hubby gave me a loupe with a diamond! I would laugh so hard! But then I am a crazy PSer...

My FI actually gave me a loupe the day he gave me the ring. I thought it was so sweet. I got to stare at my beautiful ring through it.... but I think us PS girls are the exception

It was really sweet I showed him how to look through it that night and I pointed out the pattern to my diamond and all of its prettiness!

I bought one... oops... but showed up with it a year after the ring and witha pair of studs, so I think I''m off the hook... =)

About a year ago or so Discovery Store had a digital microscope at their store to play with, talking about looking with a loupe...you have to see how amazing a diamond looks under a digital microscope, specially on a large computer monitor. Sparkles...sparkles...

LOL,

I have my loupe in my bag always - the day my e-ring arrived I am embarrassed to admit that I spent 10 minutes minutely examining every mm before I remembered to say anything to FI.

Thank god he proposed without a ring - I would have forgotten to say yes until I''d louped it!

(He was amused fortunately - gotta love that man!
