I am reposting this question as I am still trying to decide and I only received one response last time. I found a yellow gold basket style solitaire setting in a jewelers catalog. I am going to look at the setting in person next week. However, the setting has yellow gold prongs and I''m not sure if this will look good or not. I know that prongs are usually a white metal. What do you think? I would appreciate seeing pictures of solitaire settings with gold prongs if anyone has them. Thanks!

I dont have one, but I sure would like to see some like this as well.

I would think the yellow prongs would create more of a contrast but I wonder if the yellow prongs will make the diamond look yellower.

I think you need to wait for the pros to comment on this. I usually see the color stones like emeralds, sapphires and rubies set in yellow prongs but almost 99% of the diamonds are in white prongs.

I''m not too worried about the stone looking yellow, but I am worried that it will look smaller or cheap. The diamond is half carat size. I have seen some rings on websites with yellow prongs but I am wondering how it looks in real life. Btw, Cleo responded to my last post and her yellow prongs are very pretty. Does anyone else have experience with yellow gold prongs?

Hi there. I am not 100% sure but I think Cleo''s ring is around the 1 carat mark. IMHO I don''t usually like yellow prongs but I really like Cleo''s ring! Maybe it''s due to the larger size? I think for the 0.5ct mark I would prefer white gold, especially if the stone is a lower colour, the ygold prongs may emphisize the colour. I think having yellow metal around a smaller stone would probably make the stone look small, whereas a white metal may ''blend in'' a little easier. But this is all my personal preference, it''s really up to you what you like and the setting itself. Cleo''s ring is gorgeous, though I have seen other rings with ygold prongs and thought, no.

I have a 5 stone yellow gold ring, semi-bezel setting. It always looked good, but recently I had the bezel parts rhodium plated, and now the diamonds look so much better it''s incredible. I wish it had been made with white gold bezels. They do make the diamonds look bigger. In general, I would prefer a yellow gold ring with white prongs to a yellow gold ring with yellow gold prongs.

My 3-stone ring has a yellow gold shank (to match my wedding band) but the prongs are white gold.

I think the white prongs don't detract from the stone. My original ring (which I LOST along with my ER) had yellow gold shank and prongs and I felt that the prongs detracted from the stones somewhat.
Now when I look at the ring, I dont really see the prongs, just the stones.

And no, it doesn't look weird at all.

Hello,
here is a link to my thread with plenty of pics - mine is rose gold, but its a simliar effect.

I think its a really nice look and yes also Cleo has an all yellow gold setting which looks lovely.
Its barely noticeable IRL and doesn't detract At All from the stone, and I love the profile shot of my ring that the whole basket/prong is the same colour..
feel free to ask any other Q's!

Hello again :) Just not that many yellow gold rings on PS I think!

Thankyou lnl, honey and arjunajane for your lovely comments on my ring.

I know that Pieface also has a gorgeous 0.56ct yellow gold ring, with yellow gold prongs, which hopefully he will not mind me posting on his behalf here:

Here''s the link to his proposal thread, with some handshots too. I really love his ring and think the yellow gold still works with the half carat diamond size. I reaaaaaaaaally love the circular tips on his prongs.

I thought you might find it useful to see his beautiful ring, in case he doesn''t stop by on PS soon - hope that''s OK Pieface! :)

Thank you arjunajane for the great pictures. The your ring is just the style of solitaire setting that I am looking for, but I am having a hard time finding any in catalogs or on the internet. Did you say that gog sells the setting? I really love your rose gold!

Thank you for the other pictures Cleo. You are right, his ring does have lovely shaped prongs. Do you have any shots of the profile of your ring, Cleo?

Lyra, how often do you have to replate the rhodium area?

Hello Inl, thankyou so much for the compliment!
Yes I got my diamond and ring just the other week from GOG - it is not one thats advertised on their site, and to be honest for the good value it is I didn''t see anything similiar anywhere else..Its called the "signature sun solitaire" and mine''s in 18k rose gold, but I requested that specifically so Yellow gold will also be available.
Good luck with your hunt, and pls do ask if you need to know anything else!

I just remembered Blenheim''s gorgeous yellow gold set:
blenheim''s set

I don''t know about the rhodium yet. I''ve had it this way for 4 months so far, and haven''t noticed a change. I clean it in the ultrasonic weekly.

You should really just go with what you love. If you love all yellow gold, go for it. It''s a unique look.

In my post above I forgot one little phrase that may cause my note to seem judgmental:

I should have said that IN MY HUMBLE OPINION, the gold prongs of my previous ring detracted from the stone. ie: my ring and stone...not someone elses!

Actually, I love some of the other gold settings posted (Blenheims is gorgeous). It was just that my ring (which was a 5 stone, 2.5 ctw eternity) the prongs got in the way, maybe because of the size of the stones and the # of prongs on the setting. The stone''s weren''t that high a quality either, which might have been why the gold prongs bothered me so much.

I hope no one has taken offence: none was intended.

In fact, how many of you have noticed that YG is coming back? In the last few months I can''t believe how many are turning up. Nice.

Lyra, thanks for the pictures of blenheim''s set. It is very pretty!

Lostsapphire, no offense taken!

I would like to pair my solitaire with a yg eternity band and the jeweler thought that it might look better with the solitaire in yellow gold prongs.

Any thoughts?

The only time that I have ever seen YG prongs has been here on PS. I think that the rings that have been posted are beautiful, all of them...but for me personally, I would prefer WG prongs. I have a YG wedding band and I wear it with my all WG three stone, I like the contrast of the two. It really is just a matter of personal opinion, I think they are both beautiful!

My original e-ring is yg with wg prongs. I think wg or platinum prongs are less noticeable which allows the diamond to be the star. I think the rings posted are lovely, but I would always choose the white metal for the prongs, personally.

LS, as one of those that posted their own rings here, I''ll say that I didn''t even think to take offence to your opinion!

I agree with you that on a 3 or 5 stone ring, coloured prongs could certainly detract from the stones.

Pls don''t worry, no offence taken at all
