One of the things that really confuses me is that I looked up ideal proportions and all of the proportions on this diamond fit into that standard. However, according to Blue Nile, where I am ordering the diamond, it says it is a "very good cut". I was wondering why it didn't fall into the "ideal" cut. Blue Nile offers Very good cut, Ideal cut, and signature ideal cut.
I was wondering what about this diamond make it not fall into the ideal? Is there something I am missing? The only thing I can think is because the girdle might be too thick..
Would that make a huge difference in how brilliant (sparkly) the diamond is??

I just want to make sure I get a diamond that is very brilliant and sparkly.

Sorry if this is all over the place.. but I would REALLY appreciate any help! I am hoping to order within the next few weeks.

I assume this is a princess cut?

You might want to consider this one if you are trying to hit the 1 ct mark.

GOG offers photos and a princess should really be seen to assess the cut. BN does not offer photos.

I am no expert but I m guessing it's the very thick girdle and the large table that kick this stone out of the excellent category.

Thank you!
yes, it is a princess cut. Sorry I forgot to add that.

The diamond comes with a GIA certificate. I went to the GIA website to verify and everything on the cert. is the same. On the cert it says there is a cloud as the only clarity issue. I thought that since it is VS1 according to GIA (I've heard they are the strictest) that the cloud wouldn't be visible to the eye.

Is this not true?

Will the thick girdle make that much of a difference on how much it sparkles or will it minimal?

There is no way of knowing what this stone looks like. The GIA only tells the numbers and that means a lot less for princess cuts than it does for rounds. BlueNile has a good return policy, though, if so you are convinced you want this one, you can always return it if it's not what you like. Most people on PS would not buy a Very Good Cut princess without photos. Yes, a thick girdle could affect the sparkle but so could a lot of other cut issues and without photos there is no way of knowing.

As far as clarity goes you probably would not see anything with a VS1 unless you got out your magnification tools.

OKay.. thanks for all your help. I might look into other diamonds or maybe get this one and keep the reutn policy in mind.
This might sound like a stupid question, but you could you tell me what the risk might be of not seeing the diamond first if you have the report? What I mean is that if GIA certifies that it is colorless, VS1, etc. what other problems to do I need to look for/worry about?

Again, thank you for all of your help! This is my first time buying a diamond and I just want to make sure I get the best one for my price range.
