So, I can''t get GOG''s new chunky cushions out of my head. I''ve become obsessed and am seriously considering upgrading my current K, 1.04, VS1 H&A gog stone to this: 1.63 L, VS2

I''m a little confused about the report. GIA shows that the table is 53% but on GOGS site it says 60.56? Was this just a typo? (i don''t like large tables at all).

The other thing is color. Some of you may know that I''m not a lover of lower color stones. But I''m thinking as this is an ''antique" cut, I may not mind as much. My current K is set into a pendant and yes, i do see the color at times and it does bother me and this is an H&A stone. In this cushion it would be way more obviouss but if the color''s too much for me, I can always upgrade again to something else.

This would be set into a pendant. Not sure if I''d bezel it or have Leon set it as I love his claw prongs. It would also be in platinum so the contrast in color between the metal and the stone would be a little more obvious in some lighting conditions.

I''m so confused!! Should i go for it??

I think that 1.63 is a stunning shape that would look best as a ring with double claws! The cushions can take the color. Its just not their defining factor the way it can be with other stones (shaopes/cuts). Another possible is an airline halo to leave some space between the stone and the platinum and/or a bezelled border of colored stones like emeralds or sapphires or yellow diamonds!

You know better than to ask that question on PS!

We are enablers, sometimes blatantly, sometimes in more subtle ways, it''s what we do.

I''d ask Jon about the discrepancy *go for it* Maybe it''s a typo, maybe someone got the numbers crossed up when figuring. *it''s a beauty*

OK, seriously, if you think the color might be an issue for you, I''d also ask Jon what he has in the pipeline. He has had higher colors of the cushions and I''m sure will have more cut.

Ditto the Jetskis.

I love GOGs chunky cushions but this one is not that appealing to me

. I think it's because the cutlet ends up
being a long rectangle. I'm not big on the shape of the facets around the cutlet. But, that is all a matter of personal
taste! I dont know if I would give up an H&A for it either....I would want BOTH!

EDIT - unless you have more than one H&A - then I could give up one to get a chunky

I love GOG's Signature Chunky Cushions. He had a video showing several and I fell in love with the cut and the way the chunky facets reflect light. Have you seen a video of this particular stone? I think that stone would make a beautiful pendant. The lower color isn't as obvious on a pendant because of the location (shadowed by chin, facing out). I bought an M for a pendant and it never looks yellow when it's on. My preference would be a bezel to emphasis the unique shape of a cushion.

I guess I vote, Go for It!

thanks for your replies.

bgray- I was thinking of having it set east to west but no halo. I was hoping to keep it simple.

jet2 & lorelie- I know! How can i ask on a diamond forum whether or not to upgrade. my bad! I may call John but I''m not in a hurry. My anni is in August but i''m thinking ahead!

tyty- I would prefer a squarer shape too, but currently, there''s nothing there that peaks my interest. Like i said, i''m not in a hurry but i did think this stone would satisfy my immediate obsession with these cushions! As far as h&a''s, I have others so trading one in isn''t a big deal to me.

Swing- I saw the video and thought it was gorgeous.
It''s cool that you don''t see the color in your M. I do though see it in my K. That''s the only reason I''m unsure of this stone. One one hand, it''s an older cut so the warmth doesn''t bother me as much in "theory." on the other hand, i have no idea how I would really react until i got it and wore it for awhile.

Hi Elle!

As you know, I share a preference for the higher color stones.

I have to agree with what you wrote, however, that an antique cut is a place where these restrictions don''t necessarily apply. I can imagine being bothered by a K ACA, but not an L cushion. In fact, I saw a pair of oval K-L uncerted earrings three years ago that I still think about! For me personally, I''d rather have a more obvious tint that I could embrace, rather than a hint of color that I''m always hoping looks white. Not sure if this makes any sense! In any case, I hope I don''t sway you wrong here, but I think this could be a lovely idea...especially since it seems the color in your pendant bothers you sometimes.

Good luck and happy (in advance) anniversary!
SK

I''d say do it

I''m in love with them also!

You pretty much just summed up how i feel towards color. I think I may go for it

D&T, they''re so gorgeous that i think i may go for it.

Elle- I''m so excited for you, I have a upcoming big ol 30th bday coming and our budget would allow me to have a 1 ct cushion and so dying for these. what will you do with it WHEN you get it? a ring?

If you had to ask it means you''re still uncertain or have some misgivings about this particular cushion perhaps? Something doesn''t sit quite right and you''re not loving it as much as you''d expected to? My advice is to hold on to your H&A and ask Jon if he has something else within the budget range.

I''m not sure how a cushion wd look in a pendant though...always feel that cushions were originally designed for rings.

If you''re not in a hurry, it would make sense to would wait. Partly because of the color, but also because of the culet shape.

D&T- i was going to do a pendant. set it east to west and either bezel or have leon do it.

Diamondflame- My biggest misgiving is the color. But after seeing AJ''s stone, i''m pretty sure i can handle it

Trying to make it out to GOG this Saturday to see it in person.

MC- both you and tyty mention the culet. How noticable is it going to be? Like is it something obvious once the stone''s set? I didn''t notice anything strange in the video but i don''t know enough about cushions to comment...
