A friend of mine wants to part with a ring he bought for his now ex-girlfriend and I was hoping that someone could help me decide if I should buy it. He wants to sell the ring for $6,000 but I know nothing about diamonds. The info of the diamond is below:

Cut - Princess
Carat Weight - 1.41
Color - H
Clarity - VVS2
Polish / Symmetry - Good
Table - 77%
Pavilion Depth - 61%
Crown Height - 13%
Girdle - Thick
Culet - Medium

I believe the information is what he told me on the phone but if something doesn''t make sense then I probably didn''t understand him because I am not too sure what any of it means. If anyone could assist me I would really appreciate it.

Many thank,

I think that might be a little bit overpriced; in any case, I would probably advise against purchasing a diamond ring from a friend, one which was once meant as a sentimental present. That''s just my opinion though!

Many thank,
Welcome!

Proceed with extreme caution, does the diamond have a reputable lab report like GIA? This is important to know. Also there isn't enough info to go on to judge the cut quality, what I would suggest is if you want to pursue this deal then get an independant appraiser involved to evaluate the diamond and its cut and make the sale final on it checking out to your satisfaction. From the info given it appears to be a commercial cut quality Princess so a skilled evaluation of the cut quality would be useful, have you seen the diamond in person?

Appraisers tool you can use to find one in your area - https://www.pricescope.com/appr_list.aspx

Also it can be tricky buying from friends and family and really it can be best to buy from a reputable store or source as if things don't go as planned it can be very difficult.

Pricing, not really possible to comment on that without more info such as the lab report.

If this person is your friend, then I would get it appraised first and then pay him for it. He should not be offended by it if he is offering you a reasonable price.
