To all,

I have the opportunity to buy a diamond from a private party for $6,000. According to the GIA report, the specs are as follows:

Square Modified Brilliant

Measurements: 6.54 x 6.53 x 4.82 mm
Carat Weight: 1.71 carat
Color Grade: H
Clarity Grade: VS2
Depth: 73.8%
Table: 75%
Girdle: Thin to Thick
Culet: None
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Very Good
Fluorescence: Medium Blue

Of course, I would take the diamond to an independent appraiser to confirm the specs, but is this a good deal (price wise)? Thanks in advance for any advice.

It looks like a commercial cut Princess, one which isn''t cut to top standards. The table is also larger than the depth, the reverse is usually preferred. It looks like it is facing up a bit small also. Definitely take it to an appraiser and get their opinion on the price, I personally think 6k is too much.
