I have a question regarding inclusions. Whenever I go into the BM stores they have diamonds that even when you don''t have a loup they look like they have little tiny white dots everywhere. The only way that I can explain is that its not a "clear diamond" - I am not sure if it is milky or cloudy or what its called, and for the life of me I can not find a picture with it.

I guess my worry is that I am ordering in a diamond to look at that has a cloud, and the GIA cert says additional clouds not shown. It is an SI1 and I think this is the determining factor on the grade. Do you think this will be like the ones I see in the store. It is not letting me post the picture of the inclusion plot - but I will keep trying. Please help!

Yay, I guess it had to be a JPEG!

Have you taken the ring to be cleaned so you can rule out that it just isn''t dirty?

No, I haven''t seen the stone yet, and I won''t get pictures until Tuesday but I want to know if I should avoid getting my hopes up that it won''t be that way. I am wondering if by looking at the plot, knowing its a cloud and knowing the cert says ''additional clouds not shown'' if you think it will look like the ones I have seen in the BM stores? My stone is an SI1.

Those diamonds are very poorly graded stones, generally not by GIA (or they are I1 or lower with GIA), and often are more industrial quality than gem quality IMO.

If you stick with GIA or AGS grading, and stick with SI2 or better, you probably will be fine. Unless of course the only inclusion in an SI2 is a cloud, then you should get some kind of light analysis to see if it affects the performance. With the plot you showed, you can't be sure, so I would have it appraised independently before purchase personally...

Thanks, I will get it independantly appraised for sure. I guess its just that I am sooo nervous. I really think this is the one, but I have only seen the GIA cert so I can''t be sure. The anticipation for Tuesday is killing me!

You should be ok if the diamond is coming from a trusted vendor, they will evaluate the diamond carefully if the cloud is the grade maker, plus with your appraisal you should have covered all the bases.
