I am currently looking to buy a smaller round cut diamond for an engagement ring. My girlfriend doesn't feel comfortable with anything over 3/4 ct and actually prefers something more towards 1/2. When we visited the jewelry store there wasn't a real preference between g-i diamonds and d-f however I tended to like the colorless.( not that I matter whats so ever on this one but hey ) We were also informed that a excellent cut can make a g-i seem colorless .I went online and found what seems to be a decent diamond from my knowledge that is GIA certified. What I am worried about is the clarity characteristics, It has a cavity , pinpoint and cloud . The clarity is VS1 so I am on the fence about whether or not to get this diamond. Should I be worried about it? Here is a picture of the diamond and part o the report. I have a chance to buy it for 800 dollars.Any advise and information would be highly appreciated . Thanks!

I'm relatively new to this, but I think most of the veterans will tell you not to be concerned with a VS1. Because of how the certificate is scanned, I can't see where these blemishes are located on the stone. But its safe to assume they are not obvious if GIA gave it a VS1.

More people here may be concerned about the VG symmetry. I've read others say that is something they would be worried about if they were doing the purchasing.

With a GIA graded stone you don't have to worry about clarity AT ALL when you are talking about a VS1. And especially in a stone that size. You wont see anything with the naked eye and won't be able to see anything with a loupe.

VG symmetry is fine for me in a stone that size, you really won't be able to see anything. I dont start seeing noticable asymmetry until Good or Poor.

If you are buying it used make sure there is a return period or ebay buyer protection in place so you can verify that the diamod matches the lab report. Is the stone laser inscribed?

The stone is laser inscribed and there is a return period. I appreciate all the input. I will be sure to post how it turns out.

$800 for the diamond with those specs seems a little on the cheap side. Are you buying this diamond from a vendor or an individual?

My thought if you are buying from an individual, I would try and make it a conditional sale making sure you use an independent appraiser. My fear here would be that there may be some sort of wear issues or possibly even a diamond swap happening. I don't want to put fear into your thoughts, but make sure to cover your bases and don't leave yourself open to being ripped off. Just because they have a diamond in front of a report doesn't mean the report is for that particular diamond. My humble 2 cents worth.

I am buying it from a vendor on ebay. It was original listed for 1000 or 1,100 with an option of best offer and after seeing the specs I just said mine as well try for 800. It is from a jewelry company who sells on ebay with %100 feedback and also positive reviews on yelp. The description of the item states that the diamond is inscribed with the same gia number that is listed on the report. Is it possible some one would go through the trouble of inscribing the number themselves on a different diamond? I'm new to this so I don't know what kind of scams go on within diamonds. I asked for a full picture of the GIa so I could use the HCA and it gave me

Light Return Good
Fire Very Good
Scintillation Good
Spread
or diameter for weight Excellent

With an overall score of 3.4- very good. If there is no foul play here have I got myself a really good deal?
