Hi everyone,

It's been a long while since I last posted but I am a self-confessed serial lurker!!!

I am in need of some unbiased advice. Should I be worried about the inclusions in this VS2 GIA graded 1.01 emerald cut diamond?

I am told that the stone in 100% eye clean but the last VS2 stone that I sighted had a visible inclusion (the experience has now freaked me out a little).

I live in australia and am unable to view the diamond. This seems to be the typical practice here.

Anyway. On to some pics for you all.

Here we go:

And the diamond specs:

The last GIA VS2 diamond I sighted (was classed 4:1 as eye clean).... I agreed with the 1 person that said it wasn't eye clean!!!!!

I saw the cloud in the middle immediately. It was closer to the table surface than anyone expected.

Re: Should I be worried about the inclusions in this GIA VS2

Can you ask the vendor to send you several photos at varying focal depths?

Re: Should I be worried about the inclusions in this GIA VS2

I've just received the only photo that the vendor has. Any opinions?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Re: Should I be worried about the inclusions in this GIA VS2

Are you asking if the inclusions will be visible or if they are a structural problem within the stone? I am not qualified enough to say if they are a problem for the stone, but they are visible to me in the photo you posted. Do you want something 100% eye clean?

Re: Should I be worried about the inclusions in this GIA VS2

In my opinion, the photo is taken at a higher magnification then 10x, allowing you to better see the inclusions. The feathers are off to the side and on the pavilion, which leads to less of a chance of them being eye visible. Everyone's perception and sensitivity is different, but the table is clear, I think you'd have a really good stone with this one.

Photo looks pretty good but there is no way we can tell you if you will be able to see the inclusion or not.

Re: Should I be worried about the inclusions in this GIA VS2

If you really want a 100% eyeclean emerald cut, I would probably go with VS1 and up. I think inclusions are more masked by the facets in a rb.

Re: Should I be worried about the inclusions in this GIA VS2

I think it looks really nice. As someone else said, this picture is definitely zoomed in, so I doubt you'll be able to see it IRL...How are you planning on setting it?

Re: Should I be worried about the inclusions in this GIA VS2

Thanks everyone so much for their replies :twirl:

Reading them has definitely lifted my confidence in the stone....so thanks.

I wrote to the vendor with my concern and he replied with the following:
"The diamond is certainly eye clean and the inclusions will not be seen without the aid of magnification
."

I suppose, in the end, I truly won't know until I see it so I've asked for it to be called in :twirl:

It should be here in around a week so until then, I've just got to wait patiently.

As for the setting, the band was finished earlier this week....we just have to find the perfect stone to go in it. The band contains recycled stones from my 1 year anniversary ring - which I love!!!!

My inspiration was this:

The original CAD for my ring had a 6.7 mm high setting:

Re: Should I be worried about the inclusions in this GIA VS2

I wanted a higher setting so it was changed to 7 mm:

Re: Should I be worried about the inclusions in this GIA VS2

The band width ranges from 1.5 mm (closest to setting) to 1.8 mm (base). The band height is 2 mm as I will be stacking it with the rest of my bands (all at 2 mm).

I can't wait to have it on my finger

Re: Should I be worried about the inclusions in this GIA VS2

Beautiful stone from what I can see. Of course, the magnification is about a zillion times the real stone, so any little inclusion will be visible to some degree. I also love the way you plan to set it. Very classic! Congratulations!!!!

Re: Should I be worried about the inclusions in this GIA VS2

I think it'll be beautiful! I love the setting you're creating for it, too.

Re: Should I be worried about the inclusions in this GIA VS2

Thanks heaps for your comments!!!! I'm just sooooo excited...can't wait to see it all finished (hopefully the stone blows our minds away!!!)
