Should I be able to tell that my ring was sized?

I got my ring sized last week. I went from a 5 to a 4.5. It''s platinum. You can tell that *something* was done to the band.

It''s not perfectly round any more, and the back of the band (where they sized it, I am guessing) is slightly wider than the rest of the band. All of this is very subtle, but I can definitely notice it. There aren''t any seams or anything like that. But, it just doesn''t look like it did when in came brand new. The jeweler I went to guarantees their work, should I take it back and have them re-work it? It isn''t the jeweler that I bought my ring from. I bought my ring from Blue Nile and thought it would be easier to take it somewhere local where I could get it back the same day instead of sending in the mail and insuring the package, etc. Lesson learned!

Would you take it back if you were me? How much can a ring with side stones be messed with before it compromises the stability in the setting?

There''s no harm in going back to your local jeweler and asking him if he can refine those areas that bother you.

It may or may not be possible, though, to make the ring look as though it was never touched.

Yup, I''d bring it back to share your concerns with your jeweller. I''ve seen jobs where I can''t tell the difference and also where I can see a slight mark. When I sent that ring with the mark back, he did something to it and I can barely make it out now.

I would go back and point out the areas of concern. When I first got my e-ring it was too large by half a size, after the sizing was done there was absolutely no evidence that anything had been done to the ring.

There is nothing to be lost with taking the ring back to the jeweler who did the work and explaining what concerns you about the work so that they can address your concerns. If it makes you feel any better, there are times when as vendors we have to sit down with our bench jewelers and point out what we''re not happy with on a job as well

As others have mentioned, taking it back can''t hurt.
Based on the photos, by no means is it a "bad" job- but I agree- for someone who will notice such details, it may not be good enough.....but it might be a neccesay evil.....
One aspect to this which maybe a concern: Rings with small stones set into the shank, like yours, may suffer "stone popping" after size adjustment. It''s very possible the jeweler who did the size adjustment was keeping this in mind by making sure the back of the ring is beefy- as many times stones pop if the bottom of the ring bends.

I''m afraid to bring up a concern, but it''s likely the original seller won''t take responsibility if anything like that does happen.
For this reason, it might be a good idea to give BN a call and see what happens to your warranty ( if there is one)

i think it was always thicker there and it is a benefit for you as that is the part that wears thinner over time
