Hi guys,

Which do you think would look better on my stubby fingers (size 5 and 1/2): RB or cushion?

Looking at 1.25 to 1.3 carats, E, VVS1/2, ideal cut

Will a cushion face up much smaller than a RB?

And what would the price difference be between a cushion and RB of same carat, clarity, cut as above.

Want to go for a thin thin band and probably a pave wedding band.

And what do you think about the H&A square cut??

Budget is pretty unlimited, don''t want to go bigger as would be impractical for work and i''m scared of getting mugged (i''m only little...)

Many questions I know!!

Thanks in advance!

Since your fingers sounds like mine(I wear a 5 1/4) and have a GOG OMC, I vote a cushion but I think really anything you love will work great. I think the right setting is more important.... delicate and thin, no big bulky setting unless it''s your style. The style setting you have in mind sounds great. Have you thought of an emerald cut? I think they are classic and elegant and will elongate a finger too.... can you tell I love me some EC diamond?

Can''t wait to see what you decide on. Happy hunting

The "face up" size is just the square area. Compute the area (rough area for cushion or sq brilliant) and see how the stones you're looking at compare. If a squarish stone and a RB both have essentially the same diameter, the square will have a greater surface area due to the corners not being rounded off as much.

I have short fingers and I don't think any of those shapes would be unflattering. But be sure to try on a variety of mountings because the scale of those can be a problem, lol.

RB is a good classic shape that never goes out of style. The others might be more trendy, and that might affect future resale or trade-in values, or might not be quite as adaptable to remounting years down the road when styles change again, but all of that is speculation. You probably can drop down to VS or even SI1 clarity unless you have your reasons for choosing VVS.

thanks!

don''t really like the emerald cut, going to stick to RB or cushion

cushion cuts seem to be cheaper than RB for the same carat weight (i am aware they tend to face up smaller though)

will be looking for cushion briliant (not modified, don''t like the crushed ice look)

anyone know of any UK vendors of H&A square cuts??

will keep you guys up to date!

thanks HVVS

I hear what you're saying about the "staying power" of the RB, but I want to buy whichever one looks good on my finger really (after all, i plan on staring at it for a good many years yet..) I've only tried on RBs so far (which look nice phew!) but really want to try on the cushion (RBs are lovely, but so very common as a shape....)

i think i want a more squarish stone, sort of in the tiffany novo style is what i'm looking for (but NOT going to pay those prices for it!!)

really, i need to go try on rings for size and cut THEN decide on how to work the budget for clarity, color etc

this is gonna take a lot of work!!!

I have small hands and short fingers, too. This is how my 2.5 RB looks on my hand. I have a ring size 4, by the way. Photo is just to give you a reference of what a RB looks like on small hands! Excuse my ugly nails.

I always thought I'd end up with a more squarish stone, too, like a cushion or asscher... but I found that the RB faces up the biggest (of the shapes I looked at -- I did not look at princesses or pears or marquise) and looked the best on my hand.

Shapewise, I prefer the pear and the asscher, but the RB definitely looked the best on me.

Also, here is Kristajenn21_1''s 1.22 carat RB (roughly the size you''re looking for, right?):
