I have a nice diamond, purchased at a reasonable price from blue nile. My girl is quite fond of a Tacori setting. We will go with that designer if we can. But while it seem like this should be a relatively simple process it has not.
There are relatively few Tacori dealers in our area (Orange County, CA). There is a big shop in fountain valley called NQ Jewelers. They seem like a big, high volume store but the sales staff is very hard to communicate with because (and I''m trying to say this very objectively) English is maybe not everyone''s first language over there.
There is place called "Swiss Watch Gallery" that may be an option. The first time I went there, the salesman was very condescending. When I asked him a question, he had the nerve to tell me "you let us worry about that..." at which point I bid him a good day. I''m sure they have some other salesperson to talk to.
Then I talked to the people at Robbins Bros. I am skeptical of them due to their bankruptcy. The salesperson there did not seem very credible; her story kind of changes the more you talk to her. First she had the setting in stock, then she told me they need to see my diamond to figure out what setting I need. I don''t understand that because I gave her the exact dimensions of my diamond (from the GIA certificate).
I also don''t understand why the lady at RB says she needs to send my diamond to Tacori to be set. The other jewelers I talked to said they would get the correct setting from tacori and set the diamond in their shop.
Overall, RB feels like a slick sales operation. Their prices on other things I looked at seem ridiculous. I looked at a 4mm platinum men''s wedding band and they wanted $1,495. I bought the same thing at blue nile for $800.
I am happy to pay a fair price for quality stuff, but I want to deal with someone that is honest and trustworthy. So my questions are:
-- anyone have a recommendation for a good jeweler in the Orange county CA area that sells tacori?
-- is the lady at RB telling me stories?
-- is it not reasonable to think that the jeweler should be able to set the stone in their shop? Obviously jewelers are having hard times and I hate to leave my diamond with them for extended periods. If they decide to shut down, then I''m just another creditor...
-- is RB safe to deal with since they went in bankruptcy?
