Ladies, how do you store your shoes?

I'm currently using those little plastic tree thingies in the bottom of my closet, but it's not working very well. My shoes get dusty and I often have to kinda jam them down onto the shoe trees which can bend them out of shape. Also, I have no idea how, but the amount of dog hair that makes it into the bottom of my closet is insane!!!

I'd rather have something that keeps the shoes dust-free, but still makes it easy to find the pair I'm looking for. Maybe stackable boxes would work, or some of those hanging shoe cubbies that hang from the closet rod? What do you use? Pictures would be greatly appreciated, if you have any! =)

We just use small shelves in our hall closet, and that seems to work well for shoes that we wear all the time. For more seasonal shoes and boots, I try to store them in either their original boxes or in plastic shoe boxes (and then those go in my closet). I was thinking of getting one of those over the door shoe pocket holder things but since we have pocket doors, I didn't think it would work as well.

I store mine in the original shoe boxes and stack on my closet shelf. DD does the same except that she took digital photos of her shoes , printed the photos and taped them to the front of the shoe box so she can spot the pair she wants to wear in an instant. She has at least 15 pr of shoes so I can understand why she does this.

I have about 40 pairs of shoes. I don't store them - they "live" on bookcases in my bedroom.

This means I can look at them all the time. :-)

The bookcases are dark wood and about 1.8m by 1m across. I love them to bits! The only problem is that the shoes I rarely wear get dusty so I want to get bookcases with glass doors, but we have to get through the wedding first!

Will take pictures tomorrow afternoon...

I have friends who do this but I can't. I love my shoes too much. I need to look at them all the time. Sometimes just walking past them makes me smile.

I had major shoe storage issues, but came across this from ikea:
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10185588
It is a cubby system that fastens to the rod. I own 4 of these and keep one pair of heels per cubby and one tennis shoe or boot per cubby since most won't fit a full pair. Makes it very easy to see, they don't get dusty, and then I only have to store my wellies or knee high leather boots on the floor. I keep 2 in the hall closet for my everyday shoes, then one on my side of the closet for dress shoes, one on DHs side for his shoes (he can only fit one shoe per cubby).

Look through the products ikea has...many wonderful storage ideas. If you find something you like that is only available in the store and don't have an ikea near you, let me know and we can arrange something...I LOVE my ikea!!

I have this and LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I also need to see my shoes and have them easily accessible, and I have enough to fill this rack plus another smaller rack. This one fits in the bedroom behind the bathroom door, so it's out of 'main' sight, unless the bathroom door is closed.

My shoes live in their original boxes, in tissue paper, stacked at the top of my wardrobe with a photo of the shoes on the outside of the box. This way they stay dust free and in good condition AND all it take is a quick look along the boxes to find the shoes which will go best with an outfit rather then pulling them all down and trying to find a pair to go.

If I wasn't doing that I'd find a place that sells those clear plastic shoe boxes and buy LOTS

Are you my mum?

I keep mine in the original boxes, with photos stuck to the front of most of them. I have one section of floor to ceiling shelves in my wardrobe, most of them are stacked on the shelves, and on the shelf that runs along the top of the wardrobe. Casual shoes I wear all the time (slippers and sneakers) are on the floor of the wardrobe. I have about 80 pairs of shoes.

Yes I am. Now go clean your room! lol

1. LOL Soocool!

2. Irishgrrrl, this system hits every point on your checklist (stackable, clear, protects from dust) and does so in a way that if you have the slightest tendency towards OCD you will *LOVE* how neatly they stack up. Unlike regular boxes, you needn't disrupt the whole apple cart if the pair you want is towards the bottom of the stack. My friends who have these because they don't have built-in systems LOVE them, and it's easy to see why!:

Ummmm.... I have some in the hanging type of shoe holder, but many are just thrown in a cardboard box! :errrr:

Ladies, THANK YOU!!! You're giving me some awesome ideas! Keep 'em coming! :appl:

BTW, I have to ask . . . WHY has Freke not responded to this thread?!?! I just KNOW she has to have some ingenious way of storing her 8,956,723 pairs of shoes!

I use one of the canvas collapsible storage cubbies that hangs from the closet rod. (I hope all that makes sense!) It works fine for my shoes. The cubbies are big enough that I can usually fit 2 pairs of flats in one. Works for me. I live in an apartment, so I don't have enough closet space to keep various shoe boxes. I love the idea of the plastic boxes with pictures on the outside.

Timely post - I'm about to tackle my shoes.

I store mine in their boxes and use a black marker to write the shoe description on the box. The boxes are stacked 3 tall and take up a lot of space. But I do have flip flops, sneakers and boots that are not in boxes. I seem to be wearing the same shoes over and over because I can't "see" what I have (a lot). In fact can't find a brand new pair of Ralph Lauren sandals - no box, no nothing duh!! There has to be an answer to shoe storage that works.

You ladies have some great ideas! Thank you!

Also, I found these: http://www.bravofun.com/Bravo-fit-W...froogle&utm_medium=organic&utm_source=froogle They look like a good option, since they're clear so I would be able to see which shoes are in which box, and they have a lid to keep dust/dog hair off the shoes. Also, I'm liking the fact that they can stack on shelves in my closet, or on the closet floor. This might be what I wind up with, although I'm still considering my options! =)

Hehe I read the title as "shoe shortage!"

In a pile on the closet floor wasn't exactly what you were looking for, right?

Indy ~ LOL! I'm afraid I have that problem, too! I can NEVER have enough shoes!

Dani ~ Wellll, not exactly. Been there, done that, trying to fix that problem! ;))

Hi Irish how are you; good to see you!!!! Sorry I thought I would say hellos to you here. hehe :wavey:

Hi, Skip! Missed you, sweetie! :wavey:

Aw thanks; I missed you and your happy go lucky posts!

I have a "linen closet" in my bathroom that is about 6 feet wide.. I took off the sliding doors and use the shelves for shoes. It makes it so easy to see what I have and shoes don't get left out because I forgot about them!

Skippy ~ Awww, you're too sweet!

Sparkly ~ I love your linen closet idea! Very cool! :appl:
